Broken Lantern Tattoo

My friend and I did a walk in for matching tattoos on a Friday night. We were immediately greeted and welcomed in. The shop is clean and everyone is very friendly and accommodating- they even had snacks/drinks for customers. Shane did our tattoos and did an amazing job- he was very, very thorough and made sure the entire process was seamless. We honestly wanted to go back for another tattoo before we left town to head back home but just didn’t have time! 😆

Excellent artists, but even better people. The professionalism and positive workplace environment presented by everyone at Broken Lantern are second to none. I can confidently say that they uphold a high set of standards in relation to their work and maintain those standards each day. I just finished a full sleeve recently and was lucky enough to spend the past couple of months with their artist, Ricky. I cant speak highly enough about Ricky as an artist and a person—hes just a really rad dude! I always looked forward to our sessions because not only was I getting some great-looking ink, but I also left the shop with some great conversations. Ricky truly cares about his clients, and his passion for his work is evident. I wouldn’t trade this entire tattoo process for anything, and I plan on getting even more work done by Ricky and Broken Lantern in the future. I highly recommend this shop to anyone looking for professionalism, high-quality work, and even higher-quality people.

In May of this year I decided I was going to get my first tattoo. I lost my father in February to a hateful, evil disease. But, for the few months before he died, I watched my dad do the bravest thing I have ever seen anyone do. He faced his terminal diagnosis with courage and bravery. He fought like a warrior. The tumor may have killed him in the end, my dad won that fight. And we know it’s not over; we will see him again.When I decided to get a tattoo honoring my father’s fight I looked at every shop In Charleston area that I could find. Ultimately I ended up at Broken Lantern. Cam, Shane, and all the fine people at the shop were phenomenal and showed real care and respect for my requests. I immediately felt like we were all on the same page and I knew this was the place for me. I couldn’t have been more right!I was lucky enough to have Shane Watkins as my artist, and he gave me this incredible tattoo (photo attached). I can’t thank him and Cam and everyone at BL enough for this incredible experience. I am happy to wholeheartedly and unreservedly recommend this shop! 5 stars because it won’t let me give 1000!!

The entire team at Broken Lantern was incredible! My three brothers and I were looking for a place to get our first tattoos done and had narrowed it down to a couple local shops. After walking in for the consultation I knew BLT was the right place. Cam is an incredible host and all of the artists are incredible at what they do. Cannot recommend this place enough. You will love the team and the vibe at Broken Lantern. Do yourself a favor and head in for a consultation.

Me and 3 friends came in for walk-in tattoos and broken lantern was extremely accommodating. Taylor at the front desk was awesome. She was super friendly to chat with while we waited and gave us some fun things to do while we waited. Definitely recommend to anyone and everyone!

Best tattoo place ever! They fit me and 4 of my friends in last minute when we were visiting Charleston and brought to life every idea we had. Pricing was on point and the cleanliness was superb! We will definitely be back for more in the near future!

Great experience in the type of industry where great experiences really matter. Staff (not just artist) were really grounded and never made the process any more difficult than it needed to be. Lanie did my actual tattoo and did a very technical, very skillful piece and the end product reflects that. Her process was very detailed oriented and she communicated the specifics in a way you want from an artist. Very good work, very much appreciated.

GLENN COLLINS IS AMAZING!! I would give more stars if I could. The facility is regimented, organized, and CLEAN. The playlist of music was great which made you a bit more relaxed. Glenn and the staff are complete professionals & you can see they all get along like family. I was taken in at my appointed time. The tattoo took a bit longer than I had expected. I was having a very hard time after 3 hours & I started with the moaning, cursing & involuntary spasms. Glenn was a complete pro; he stopped to let me take a break, and with his superior knowledge, he helped me work through it! Cameron (the tatted-up reception dude) would come back and lighten the situation & make me laugh and feel better! A really nice guy, he will be the one who checks you in, sign papers, etc. Glenn stayed extra late to finish since I was from out of town. Hands down, one of the best tattoos I ever received. My mom and I got matching tattoos at Broken Lantern—we were really pleased with how they turned out! We worked with Lanie on our fine line tattoo designs and she was fantastic. Lanie made us feel comfortable, was happy to make modifications to the design, and was thorough about all the tattoo details. I would definitely recommend the crew at Broken Lantern for your tattoo needs!

I saw Shane Friday evening to get some wings on my forearm. He did AMAZING! He did not use a guide and did everything off the top of his head. The work is incredible and it really blew my mind that he didn’t need a reference to constantly refer to, or a stencil. You can tell he is very skilled and knowledgeable. I’ll attach a picture of his work.

Me and my best friend were visiting Charleston. It was my friends first time in Charleston and we decided to finish our matching tattoos while we were here. I had picked out two locations that seemed like the better of the options on a google search. I’m so glad we ended up at Broken Lantern in the end. Called ahead to make sure they took walk-ins and Porter provided me with helpful and friendly customer service, so we went by to see if they could squeeze us in and yet again Porter provided me with attentive and friendly customer service. He checked and they decided to take us on. We ended up with Glenn, I didn’t know that he was the shop owner. He was so sweet, easy going and helpful that I had no clue. He provided exceptional care and cleanliness, I was provided with care instructions that caught me off guard bc I have always used aquaphor but was instructed to leave the bandage on for 5 days and no ointment. I was hesitant but the pics from left to right are the day of the tattoo, 5 days later with the bandage, after removing the bandage, and the clean tattoo after removing the bandage. I also normally have high anxiety while waiting and through the process but it was so comforting with the games and puzzles in their waiting area that I barely felt anxious the whole time. I am blown away by the service and care provided by Broken Lanterns team. If you happen to plan a visit to Charleston and want to have some work done by the best, go ahead and schedule an appointment with them. I promise it’s worth the wait especially if you get Glenn.

Best experience ever!!! Also first tatoo and Shane was so kind and did excellent work! The vibes are great, good music and art. People are so friendly and front desk worked with me and was very patient and kind!

We were visiting Charleston for my 40th… wrapping up our tradition of 40th bday celebrations and wanted to commemorate the moment. Booking was a breeze. We arrived and immediately were greeted with a super friendly front desk gal (forgot her name but I hope she remembers to order a loopy case!) she helped get us set up with the perfect adjustments to our matching tattoos. Then we each had our visit with Ricky… he was so good at letting us each make tiny changes to be reflective of our individuality and provided his expert opinion. He was friendly, knowledgable about random topics, calm, and a gentle touch! We are so pleased! As a side bar: the snacks were great while we waited :)

Absolutely awesome experience! Cameron at the front desk is incredibly good at what he does. My wife and I instantly felt comfortable and at home due to Camerons gnarly customer service. He set us up with Shane for an evening appointment. When we arrived they had crafted our ideas into perfectly sized prints and quickly started preparing us for our couples tattoo..... I got the bottom half of an oyster shell with oyster and a pearl.... My wife got the top shell. Shane was personable and comforting as he worked his magic. We were absolutely thrilled with the results and plan on returning for our next wedding anniversary! Highly, highly recommend!!!!!!!

Shane is an incredible artist. My tattoo is everything I wanted and more. The attention to detail is amazing and it healed beautifully. Well worth the wait to see him. Everyone there is welcoming and friendly. It was the best experience, I will definitely be back.

Best tattoo shop in Charleston! Walked in for a consult to have my dog’s paw print put on my leg after she passed away earlier in the week. They were able to schedule and see me that same day. They were so nice and understood exactly what I wanted. We came to a final design and they were even able to put her ashes in the ink for me. They exceeded all of my expectations and Lanie did an amazing job and made my experience so enjoyable during this hard time. I recommend anyone who wants quality work done and to also have an awesome experience! Definitely will be going back!

What an awesome experience! The customer service was on point! Porter was an amazing desk girl and made sure I had all my ducks in a row before continuing to the procedure. Lanie was a phenomenal artist, she had a light touch with the needle and made sure I was as comfortable every step of the way, we were able to knock it all out in a single session and it had to be one of the most comfortable tattoo experiences of my life. The work is absolutely A+ and well exceeded expectations. As far as I’m concerned this is the only shop in Charleston to get such high caliber work and customer service. Do yourself and your skin a favor and book yourself an appointment with these guys, you won’t regret it.

This was my 1st tattoo experience and the staff at Broken Lantern did an outstanding job. Very easy going atmosphere. From setting up the appointment, all the way to putting the protective wrap on the finished product. My artist was Kat and she did an outstanding job in putting my ideas/wants into a showstopper of a tattoo. Very clean, very thorough and very attentive to detail. Not a great first tattoo experience. Front desk staff was unprofessional and not prepared. We made an appointment months in advance and they treated us like walk-ins they didn’t really have time for. Tattoo artists were chill and gave us the tattoos we wanted. I would recommend the artists but not the shop.

They saw me quickly. They made sure I understood their processes completely. They made recommendations for a lasting tattoo with regard to color and placement. Alana was quick and efficient and Im completely satisfied. I got exactly what I asked for and I love how it turned out.

One of the best tattoo parlors Ive been too! Everyone is absolutely wonderful and kind, there is no pressure when it comes to your tattoo. The staff is very knowledgeable and gets your vision down. Their talent is a step above and I will continue to be tattooed by their staff!

Had an awesome first session with Shane! He took his time making sure every detail (including the exact shades of blue) was perfect and communicated anything challenging that came up and talked about how we could go about handling it. Cameron was also incredibly nice and was a welcome distraction with his karaoke performances (on the house 🤣). As a socially awkward human I really appreciate how nice and welcoming everybody was and Im looking forward to my next session!

On time, fast work, good conversation and a great price. Took about three hours to get this done including sketching and making the print for the overlay and paperwork, about two hours to do the actual tattoo and it came out beautiful. If you want a good tattoo, this is the place!

Wouldn’t recommend lanie gray. loved her at first she did all of my work. i got a hand tattoo done by her, never got finished. tried multiple times to get an appointment. i was so nice about it, i asked a couple times for an appointment. she wouldn’t get back to me! its upsetting cause now i have to live with a hand tattoo that’s not finished…you don’t leave people with unfinished work. in my opinion just rude and unprofessional

First off I just wanna give a big thanks to my artist Chris he did an awesome job with my cover-up I couldnt ask for a better one I walked in service was courteous and polite I showed them my ideas on what I want and they helped me pick what would work the best to cover and Chris put his on little twist to the tattoo to make it a one of a kind and like I said great job and the price was great I didnt feel robbed in anyway thank you guys so much and you will definitely be hearing from me again

From the minute we walked in, it was an amazing experience. The vibe was incredible, and the people were so much fun to be around! I had come in for a cover up of a tattoo and an experience that just wasnt ideal or what I envisioned and Broken Lantern did the absolute best job taking care of me and helping me figure out a plan for the cover up. Cameron was incredibly helpful with helping me figure out designs that would work and Shane was phenomenal with sketching up exactly what I had hoped for. He took the time to really understand what I wanted and came up with the perfect design! Shane was also super easy to talk to and was able to distract my wimpy self from the pain with his awesome taste in music. Broken Lantern did everything possible to help my situation and make me incredibly happy. Its so evident that Cameron and Shane (and Im sure the rest of the crew!) want you to have the best experience possible and they care about your ink as much as you do. I would recommend them to anyone and will definitely be going back!

I visited the Broken Lantern for my first ever tattoo. I was visiting my Niece in Charleston and we decided to get matching tattoos. I was extremely nervous since it was my first tattoo. Ricky was outstanding and really put my mind at ease. His work is amazing and we are very satisfied with the outcome. I will absolutely be coming back to get another tattoo from Ricky next time I come to Charleston

I got two tattoos from Ricky Tann while here on work. He did a phenomenal job with capturing exactly what I was looking without knowing how to actually express it. He took his time and was such a pleasure to work with. If I’m ever back in the Charleston area again, I will make sure to get another by Ricky.

I was in Charleston for the weekend with my family and Broken Lantern was able to get me in last minute for a smallish tattoo. The work was done well, and quickly but upon healing I did notice a bit of digging done by the artist on my cross so its healing all weird. I think Id still give them another chance though. Pricing wasnt horrible, but looking back maybe shouldve been a bit less.

I’ve received 2 tattoos from Broken Lantern so far. Both times the result has exceeded my expectations, and I will be back for my third. The communication with Cameron is top notch and very professional. Glenn’s line work and artistry is unmatched. Both him and Cameron worked with me on the design and concept and didn’t settle until I was satisfied. The atmosphere is great and you feel welcome from the moment you walk in the door. They make their best effort to make sure you leave there satisfied. 10/10 would recommend Glenn or any other artist from that shop. I don’t think you could go wrong in either direction.

Good vibes here. Have gotten two tattoos with Alana and have left very happy both times. The manager (bro, were friends, but how do I not know your name?) is awesome and paired me up with the perfect artist for the style of tattoo I wanted. Talented artists and a great atmosphere. My fiancé & I like to get tattoos when we travel to new places. We had emailed Broken Lantern the week prior to our visit to Charleston and luckily they had an open time slot for one of the days we were in town. We sent them our inspiration along with our own drawings with our personal touches, and they combined them effortlessly to produce the perfect combination! We both got the same tattoo by Alana and she was very sweet and gentle (odd to say about a tattoo artist) but we both felt like we couldn’t have picked a better studio to get these done! Even the guy working the front operations of the studio went above and beyond to make us comfortable and confident in our choice! We love the work we got from them. 100% would return the next time we’re in town.

Cam brought my design to another level and Ricky brilliantly executed my vision. From start the finish, the customer experience is fantastic. I knew I was in good hands the entire time I was there. Couldn’t recommend them enough!

First of all, I would like to say this place is awesome!! I recommend them to anyone that wants to get a tattoo. My friends decided to get friendship tattoos and saw the great reviews on Broken Lantern. We simply walked in and were told it would be 15 min. Just like that. The staff was very welcoming and awesome. Cameron helped us get started and entertained us while we waited before and during each others tattoos. Shane did an amazing job with our tattoos. He was very patient with our friend getting her first tattoo. This place is great and I will definitely will be getting my next tattoo with them.

The whole experience from consultation to tattoo was absolutely amazing! Cam greeted me and got my idea. I called back several months later because I saved up the money. Really cool tattoo shop! The environment is cozy and welcoming, yet super badass. My best friend and I just got tattooed by Chris Jones and we had the best time. My husband and I had an absolutely incredible experience here. We went in on Tuesday and made an appointment for Friday of the same week. I got a small piece on my ankle and my husband got a large tree on his tricep/shoulder area. Our artist was Chris, and not only was he super professional, he was very charismatic and kept the whole vibe of the appointment very light and friendly. Chris even ordered a pizza for lunch and gave my husband and me a slice of it! This was my first tattoo and it looks amazing, and while I was nervous, it was a super comfortable experience. Also, I think it is important to note that no one in the shop will make you feel bad about the tattoo you are choosing, even if it isn’t the most bold and creative piece. The shop has an eclectic look, but everyone there is very nice and nothing is intimidating in the slightest. I highly recommend this shop because the work is phenomenal, artists are talented, and the whole experience is exceptional.

Great tattoo shop! My sister and I both wanted to get tattooed and really enjoyed our experience at Broken Lantern. Cameron was so helpful with setting up our appointment and making sure our tattoos were what we wanted. I was tattooed by Russell and he was very professional and my tattoo barely hurt at all. My sister was tattooed by Ward who did an awesome job on her snake tattoo. They were very aware of Covid precautions but didnt let that stop them from being friendly and personable. Highly recommend getting your tattoo done here if youre in the Charleston area.

I was on a cross country road trip and one thing that I had planned on doing was fixing and finishing a half sleeve that had been started by another artist a year and a half ago. I had plans on staying in Charleston for a few days to hopefully do so....I had been doing research and came across The Broken Lantern. It was easy to find and very close to where I was staying. From the moment I walked in I saw how clean the shop was and immediately got greeted by Glenn. He was very friendly and professional. I explained my situation with my sleeve and some of my general thoughts on how to complete it. I was able to get in THAT afternoon! I was super excited. With a general description I let Glenn create an AMAZING and colorful piece of art. Over a 2 day period Glenn Collins created a completely unique and BEAUTIFUL creation that I am SUPER happy with! I have been to Broken Lantern for my last 5 tattoos...small text pieces as well as custom designed pieces. I’ve used several different artists and have been happy with all of them. I love the vibe of the studio and Cameron at the front desk is always a friendly and familiar face that makes me feel very welcomed. I will continue to come here for future tats and always refer my friends as well!

Broken Lantern has really good reviews and is nominated to be the best tattoo shop in Charleston. I assumed all the artist working here would be able to do good line work but unfortunately, I was wrong. I requested a relatively simple minimalistic tattoo that included three bold straight lines and the finished piece came out looking wavy and slightly curved. My artist was super nice and seemed like they would be a cool person to hang out with but the quality of the work I received was disappointing. I spent just over $100 on this tattoo and now I have to go spend more money to attempt to get it fixed. If your tattoo requires straight lines I would not recommend going to Broken Lantern Tattoo.

Great experience at Broken Lantern...Walked in and asked about a custom piece and even had a time limit. Nick walked up and didn’t hesitate to help with the drawing. He delivered an awesome tattoo. Everyone else was very nice and welcoming. Very happy with my tattoo and the whole experience. 5 stars for sure.

I just got my second piece done by Chris. The store has a great atmosphere and everyone on has been friendly and helpful. Chris is an amazing artist and a cool guy to spend time with, which is important if you are going to spend a couple hours being tattooed. You guys have made me a loyal customer and when people ask I will make sure to tell them where to go. Thanks for the art.

By far the most professional and fun atmosphere you could ask for while getting a tattoo. Not only is it a great atmosphere but the artists are all extremely cool and great at what they do. Glen is an absolute stud. He’s definitely your best bang for your buck in Charleston. He works quick and always performs. He’s easy to have a conversation with and is guaranteed to impress you. In my personal opinion he should be charging more because of how fast he works and the quality provided with it. I will be going here for the rest of my life. Anyone in the South Carolina area looking to get a tattoo should visit Broken Lantern.

I had Alana and she did an AMAZING job. She was super sweet and I just had an overall good experience with her. However, I took one star off because one of the guys (who I assume is the owner) kept trying to rush her through the tattoo. If there were people waiting I’d understand but I was her last appt for the day and there were no walk ins. I just think rushing an artist is unnecessary and unprofessional.

Got my first tattoo here by Chris. He and the rest of the staff were extremely welcoming and informative about all steps of the process. I felt at home the entire time. I’ve been looking for a quality studio in Charleston to get some new tattoos. Saw some good reviews on google and gave this place a shot. Broken Lantern is honestly AMAZING. The manager is very patient and helpful, and won’t get irritated if you want to change up the style, font, etc. a million times! The establishment is very clean and the employees make you feel very comfortable. They make you feel like a friend instead of a client they just want money out of. They accept walk-ins too which is great, especially for someone who has a tight schedule. Not to mention the prices are extremely fair. Chris is STELLAR! I got a quote on my arm and I wanted very thin lines and they are crazy thin, seriously you could cut with the lines, they are SHARP! Way above my expectations. Chris has the lightest hands, I would definitely recommend him, but I’ve had other artists do pieces on me too and they are awesome as well. Such a great experience every time, they make you want to keep coming back for more! I bring a new friend every time and they say the same thing, they love this place! I plan on getting a realistic landscape piece next. I can’t say enough good things about this place. Thankful I found this gem! Thanks guys!

I sadly wish I had just left and lost the deposit. The tattoo is well done but it is nothing close to what I wanted. I wish I had communicated more and in the end it’s my fault for going through with it. I wanted the piece smaller and they worked with me as best as they could but I should’ve never made the appointment before being completely clear what I was looking for and knowing if they could even do it. I will have to learn to live with this tattoo, which is still well done and not a bad tattoo, just not what I wanted on my body.

Went here as a walk-in for my 6th tattoo. It was the best tattoo shop atmosphere I have ever been in. Sarah was extremely patient while we fine tuned and tweaked the design MULTIPLE times. Rachel is an amazing artist and lent her expertise and opinions without pushing in a particular direction and even let us tweak the design as we went along. Their patience and professionalism is above and beyond. I will definitely be returning for my next large thigh piece! Thanks ladies for being so down to earth and fun to work with. Had a terrible experience at another shop since moving to Charleston and pretty much gave up hope. Had something I really wanted to get done so I did some research and found Broken Lantern. Stopped by, talked to Bee Jay and felt really comfortable. Everyone was super friendly and Glenn killed the tattoo. Hes much more soft-spoken then most; but very nice to talk to after a little while. I love my tattoo and I am very happy with my experience.

Best tattoo shop in the Lowcounty, if not the east coast. Ive been collecting art/ink/pieces for 20 years all over the U.S and I really wanted a Glenn Collins piece. Its my favorite tattoo to date and it was on a cover up too. Friendly staff, very accommodating, clean facilities , and a good vibe all around in the shop. Highly recommend.

Went to Chris for matching tattoos with my siblings and he did an amazing job! He was super friendly and completely open to all our different requests. He was patient with placement changes and wanted to make sure it was exactly where we wanted before he started. Not my first tattoo so I kind of knew what to expect but it was the first for one of my sisters and Chris explained every step of the way and answered all the questions she had. We got a geometric design and his line work was spot on.If youre looking to get work done Id highly suggest going to Chris!

Glenn did an amazing job today with a wolf tattoo on my chest. He is awesome and I definitely won’t go anywhere else. He also did a grizzly bear on my side a few months ago and they are so good they look real. They both have personalities to them. He does a great job with fine lines and shading and both of the tattoos covered up older tattoos and you can’t tell at all. Thanks man!

I came in about a week or two prior and we just talked about the design I wanted (which at the time was too small to last). They were very honest about what is a good tattoo idea with tips on size placement and design that really made my tattoo fill out.I am in love with the work that Kat did and really grateful for her patience and experience. While getting tattooed she talked me through the needles and ink and what she was going to do, and even though I thought I wasnt nervous it made getting the tattoo a lot easier. He got his piece first and since we were getting our work from the same artist, I was going to be waiting a bit, BUTThe absolute SWEETHEART at the desk made sure I was taken care of. Loaded the pac man/galaga game with Credits to ensure I wasn’t bored then put on two movies AND a Pay per View fight. Our artist did our tats MORE than justice, made them even better than the reference we gave and welcomed us back for future work. I have to say after going to one of the “most recommended” tattoo shops in Charleston for my previous pieces I have regrets that I did not try Broken lantern sooner. Broken Lantern is a very professional shop with clean artists (ie. drug/alcohol free). Great customer service by Cameron at the front desk, while my artist Shane is very experienced and personable... hes easy to talk with while hes drawing. Shane and I worked for multiple hours just planning out how I wanted my tattoo to look before he even started slinging ink.

This was my first tattoo and everyone at the shop was very helpful and answered all of my questions, they made me feel like all of my questions were important and gave me very good advice. I came into Broken lantern with a quarter sleeve that was half completed. I had to move down here before I could finish the project and these guys were very accepting. Ive dealt with a lot of artists who werent as open about the design process as these guys were. Glenn did a wonderful job finishing the foreground in my sleeve and even went back to my other work to touch it up. The front staff is nice and as long as youre not trying to barter free tattoos like a prick, youre going to be happy too. Quality work. Honest people. Nice atmosphere inside. You cant beat that.

My husband and I were visiting Charleston and wanted to get tattooed while we were there. After visiting 4 other shops (and Broken Lantern was our last stop) we were hooked. From the front desk service to the tattoo artist, we walked out very happy with everything! We are from Georgia and will driving back to Charleston to let Broken Lantern do all of our future work! I do suggest calling and making an appointment (you can send your ideas to them via email and they will have everything ready to go when you arrive) as they stay very busy (and for a good reason!)

If you see negative reviews of Broken Lantern, disregard them because they are false. Everyone at this shop loves what they do. Broken Lantern represents how a tattoo parlor should operate. Absolutely freaking amazing . Clipper Chris did a full sternum tattoo on me. Had a incredibly light hand and was a master with his line work. Seriously impressive work and an amazing amount of skill to make a idea look so perfect. His traditional is great. I could not be happier. Super clean space, very organized and professional. Best was his willing to get input from the other artists for input to make sure it looked its best.

I had went to another parlor and gotten quoted two different prices for the same tattoo, so I started looking at reviews for other parlors in the area and found Broken Lantern. Very good reviews, so I went there to check it out. They are all very knowledgeable, helpful, friendly and fair with their rates. I ended up getting two tattoos, one from Shane and one from Chris and they are both perfect! Anoyone who is looking for a tattoo in the area should go there!

Had to leave town last minute for a family emergency. I called them over 48 hours in advance to cancel my appointment and they refused to give me back my deposit back even under the circumstances. I understand rules but this company seems to have no compassion.

Horrible experience with Constance/Kat. I discussed in detail what I was looking for during the consult and we seemed to be on the same page. I sent two emails prior to my appointment also explaining the design and colors, and sent several example photos to her. She did not draw a custom image as requested and simply printed one of the example tattoos I emailed her and used that as the stencil. Not a huge deal, but I had to remind her how I wanted the design, which was different than the stencil that was printed. She did not change the stencil and decided to freehand the changes stating it was going to be easier that way. The result....multiple outline errors, crooked lines, weird blue line/crack at the bottom, as well as uneven and disproportionate scale pattern. I would have appreciated her being honest and stopping when she made the errors to ask me how we should proceed. Instead, she said nothing and attempted to hide the errors by blacking out the bottom of the design. Not only did this fail to conceal the errors, but it has made it nearly impossible to get this tattoo reworked without making it extremely dark. The bottom of the mermaid tail resembles a pencil sketch drawing with multiple rough outlines....except this is dark and tattooed on my skin. I have sent multiple emails to the shop and have discussed this by phone. The shop refuses to take any responsibility for this. The owner has been out of the country and the manager, Cam, even stated that the tattoo looks to be well done. I paid over $400 for this tattoo. I will be paying more than that for laser tattoo removal to lighten the mistakes and the area she blacked out so I can get it reworked.This has been such a negative and stressful ordeal for something I looked forward to for quite a long time. I would NOT recommend this shop to anyone.

If you are in Charleston looking to get your first tattoo, don’t come here.My experience at this tattoo shop was overall good, however I was extremely displeased with the service I got from Constance. At first, I was greeted with friendly and knowledgeable people. Upon meeting my tattoo artist, that experience changed. This was my first tattoo and I was a little bit nervous, because of this I received eye rolls, and a nasty attitude the entire time.Along with this, she created the design without consulting me and I happened to look over and see that it was 10 times bigger than how I wanted it. After expressing my concern with the size she huffed and puffed at this minor unconvinced (mind you it was the outline of a heart).

My daughter and I had planned for months to get matching tattoos. This was our first tattoo, so we where a little concerned about the whole process. I did a lot research and Broken Lantern Tattoo popped up . Went to the shop and scheduled an appointment for the next day. We had the pleasure of meeting Shane . He was amazing and very professional. I would highly recommend Broken Lantern. 5 star service . I will definitely be back

Looks like their work is really good. I drove over 45 minutes to make an appointment but wasnt told I need a card deposit AND cash deposit, which I didnt have on me so that was disappointing. (I dont carry cash usually) Really booked out too. Only big complaint I would have is I was treated like my tattoo didnt matter, I was just another person walking in. I want to find an artist who at least acts like they care and give me a great tattoo (especially for how high this place charges).

I recently visited broken lantern in search of my first tattoo in memorial of a lost loved one.I went to a different parlor in town and just didn’t feel the love or interest.As soon as I walked in the door I was immediately greeted and the search was on.Within 15 minutes my brother and I had picked out the tattoos that just imagined.It was a honor to have Chris help my brother and I get through this.Not only did he find interest in the Tattoos we wanted, the other artist in the shop found them meaningful as well. My boyfriend and I called for a same day tattoo of handwriting. They were able to squeeze us in. Cam at the front desk was extremely friendly and helpful, and Angelo who did our tattoos was awesome and does great work. Next time we’re in the Charleston area we will definitely be comi back!

I met Glenn this past weekend at a tattoo convention in Fayetteville. With over 300 artists in the room I felt very comfortable with Glenn right away. He did a great job and I was very happy with the result and quality. I felt lucky to have chosen him as my artist at the convention.

For the last five years I have researched and dedicated lots of time to finding the tattoo and parlor that I wanted. Especially since it was going to be my first. I went into Broken Lantern several times to watch my friends get tattoos there and each time my expectations were not only met but exceeded. Yesterday I finally went in to get mine. The staff was very professional but also personable. Everyone came up and greeted me. Erica who did my tattoo looked at 10 pictures I brought in and drew something up for me. And it only took one time because it came out perfect! She took me back, and was very reassuring. (I was nervous and am a wuss with pain!) My tattoo was not large, but small and had intricate details. Yet Erica was a pro and the tattoo is better than I every imagined it could be. The tat is small but its so important to me because it represents all the hard work I have put in the last five years of my life! Do not go anywhere else! I went into many other shops and did not trust their services at all! Broken Lantern was 110 % perfect from beginning to end. I WILL BE GOING BACK FOR MORE!!! Erica if you read this. I dont think I have ever written a review before but Broken Lantern gave me such a great experience, I felt the need. This was my first tattoo, and I must admit I was a little nervous. As a walk-in, everyone was so nice, and made me feel safe and very welcomed. Even though I wasnt getting a huge tattoo, they made me feel like I was a priority, and gave me as much time as I needed to feel confident about what I was doing. Ricky drew up my tattoo and he made it turn out better than I ever could have hoped for. I was on vacation, and I live 900 miles away, but I would come back just to get my next tattoo here...and I plan to! Whether you are getting your first tattoo, or if you are a seasoned tattoo canvas, I cant say enough good things about Broken Lantern. (I have their sticker on my laptop too!)

Love my new tattoo! My wife and I were in Charleston for our anniversary. I decided to get a tattoo during our visit and couldnt be happier with the results. The customer service from Cameron was stellar and my artist, Nick nailed my tattoo. Ive had my eye on an American Traditional tattoo for a while and Nicks work was beyond amazing.

I have known about Broken Lantern and Glenn Collins for some time now, however the time to stop by was always rare for me. So when I was finally able to come and book my appointment to get my right arm started I was beyond stoked! I booked my appointment in June for July 15th, this man is booked up! But that just tells me he is 100% worth the wait as this is going to be with me forever. The day came, ill say it again, I WAS STOKED! The handsome gentleman in the front Cam, greeted me immediately. The shop was more than I ever could of imagined. Not your typical tattoo shop, very clean, artwork everywhere not just images bought and thrown in frames, custom pieces from each artist, very friendly atmosphere. Time and LOVE was put into this shop with every nail hammered. They also are handling the pandemic with such grace, cam took my temperature when I walked in, they require you wear a mask, and one person in the booth at a time. This made me feel really safe and secure, they don’t just have themselves and their families in mind they are concerned for their clients safety and health as well. When I originally spoke to Glenn I told him I wanted a Japanese sleeve with his own personal touch because every tattoo I’ve seen him do, amazes me. This man, blew me away with what he had prepared a peony and Yokai mashup, WHOA. He is very knowledgeable and makes every piece custom for you Special! The tattooing procedure went very smooth, Everything was new and clean, as Glenn tattooed me he was also making sure I was feeling okay, and didn’t need anything. Cam also came by and checked in. Everyone I came in contact with in the shop was more than friendly they treated me like family. They ordered food and asked if I wanted any, lol. This place is Shangri-la. A very big THANK YOU to everyone in the shop, I can’t wait to come back and get more work on my arm done!

I recently got a tattoo and it is awesome!!! The staff over there is so nice and very helpful. If you are looking to get your first, second or tenth tattoo I would recommend Broken Lantern be your choice. I want to give a shout out to the staff and to Chris Compton whom did my tat. My sisters and I went to this shop to get each other’s initials in morse code. That’s lines and dots. As in •-•• and such. The tattoos were about 2 inches. I was told that because straight lines and circles are more difficult it would cost more. I don’t mind paying more for difficult jobs as long as the work is good quality. Each tattoo took about 15 minutes. When mine was finished I asked the tattoo artist Russell if my dots looked like they were all the same size. I didn’t think they looked even. He told me one was just swollen. Not only are my dots uneven sizes, but they’re not even proper circles and my lines are nowhere near straight. Both of my sisters have the same issues with their tattoos. If a shop or artist is going to charge more because straight lines and circles require more time and concentration then take more time and use more concentration, because now we all have to pay more to get our tattoos fixed elsewhere (because I’m not trusting this shop again) after paying $100 a piece plus tip because I trusted that my tattoo was just swollen and it would look better later. I don’t want to see a response to this review saying there’s no record of me and my sisters being there just because I don’t have my full name on my google account. We were there. The manager is Cameron there’s a cardboard cutout of him when you walk in. The “artist” was Russell, and I DON’T recommend anyone that wants a quality tattoo go there. Also, I have plenty of tattoos to compare it to. This wasn’t my first experience. Every response to a negative review has an excuse as to why the tattoo looks bad. This response I just got is that it hasn’t healed properly and that I’m rude. This is PERMANENT and reviews are supposed to be honest. If a circle isn’t a circle that’s just a fact. It has nothing to do with whether or not the tattoo has healed yet. I have a half sleeve among many other tattoos so I know how the healing process works. Unfortunately I’m not able to respond to the “owners response” so I edited my review instead. Keep using different excuses to justify the fact that our tattoos were overpriced, rushed, and came out poorly. I know I’m not wrong here. I’m also not rude. What’s rude over charging for bad quality work.

I LOVED it! I went there yesterday to get a piece done that was extremely close to my heart. It was a remembrance tattoo for a close friend of mine who passed almost a year ago.I went in with my own art in mind and was extremely nervous, but everyone there was very kind and professional. They worked with me on sizing and changing different details and finding placement.The atmosphere is amazing. It’s very calm, diverse, and professional. In one room you’ve got jazz, in another you’ve got rock, and in another you’ve got hip hop. There’s something there for everyone and the musical diversity was already reassuring in itself.The place itself was beautiful. There wasn’t a spec of dust in sight, it was extremely clean and very diverse in its decorations. I even noticed some Japanese masks.My tattoo artist, I believe his name was Nick, was AMAZING. He sketched it up and had me check the date and spelling to make sure it was perfect. Then he placed the stencil and went to work. The whole time, he and my boyfriend kept me talking so I wouldn’t focus on the pain and it was done in no time. Then, he bandaged it for me.Looking at the piece now, I couldn’t be more satisfied. He seriously brought the sketch to life and it’s more gorgeous than I could’ve imagined.

I think we better be sure to make time to get a tattoo here when the vibes are this high.Update...I went back to get the tat & Even had time to add eye color to an existing tat. We were just as satisfied as we were told we would be, if not more. Had a great time, it was affordable & very professional , not to mention they got me in & out on my tight schedule. This tattoo place is PHENOMENAL & Ive been to many different places & gotten about 15 tats, but honestly this one tops them all.

My daughter and I went last night for an appt with Cat. All I can say is THANK YOU for the amazing job! They are perfect! This was on our bucket list and we couldnt be happier with the work!! We will forever be grateful for the experience and professionalism of The Broken Lantern. You guys ROCK!!!

So rude. My husband and I showed up to the shop to make appointments and we had to bring our daughter in to make the appointments. A woman came out and told us no one under 18 was allowed in and then shook her head at us and said “uh babies” and treated us like we were dumb. We called to make appointments and were told we had to come in or else we would not have even had our daughter in the shop. Very glad we did not waste on time dealing with such ignorant people.To your response, the woman who came out and made her comments was in the back and had no idea the context of the situation, she just came out to make a scene for no reason. Second, when we called and were told we had to come in to schedule an appointment because it was a simple tattoo that needed no consultation we were not told we could not bring our child in for the 5 seconds it was going to take to make an appointment. And the two men who were in the shop did not say a word about her being in there and the one man was outside and saw us walking in with her so if it was that much of an issue it should have been addressed when we were going in rather than having this woman come at us in such a rude manner. I have also read other reviews where people have said how rude this woman is so I’m glad we did not make appointments with you guys. We will definitely go somewhere else where we will be treated respectfully since we were nothing but respectful in return. Definitely not going to give $200 an hour to ignorant people.

Just got 3 tattoos done at Broken Latern today, they were really friendly and super nice. They took my vision and did a hell of a good job sketching it out! I recommend everyone to go to Broken Latern. They were super quick and every tattoo artist does really amazing work.

I had Glenn as an artist. He did amazing work. Got a dream catcher down my side with a compass integrated into the top part of it. The amount of detail and intricacy he put into it made it a gorgeous tattoo. Been to other tattoo shops, but this was by far the most impressive. Definitely wont go anywhere but broken lantern for my following tattoos.

Friendly staff. Got a chest piece done by Glenn who was professional, quick, detail-oriented, and client-conscious. I gave him a lot of space to create and he exceeded my high expectations. 100% would recommend to anyone looking for high-quality ink. It’s a 2-hour drive for me, but it’s well worth it—you can make an appointment over the phone/email, which was really helpful as an out-of-towner.

Overall one of the best tattoo shops in Charleston. Everyone there is welcoming which makes for a very comfortable environment. Glenn is an amazing artist. If you want Japanese style tattoos in Charleston definitely go see Glenn. They also have the most adorable chameleon named Morty if anything go say hi to morty and check out the artists.

Didnt go to the actual shop but I was fortunate to get an amazing tattoo from Glenn at a convention in NC. Great guy, amazing art. His Japanese style tattoos are amazing. I wish I lived in SC so I could have him do all my Japanese tattoos.

Got my first and second tattoo done here over the course of a few months by these guys. Staff is so friendly and knowledgeable and passionate about what they do I came in to get my third piece started. Both Victoria and Cameron are fun to talk to! Every time I walk in I feel like I’m at home.

Got some work done by Chris, and i would highly recommend him to everybody. Very respectful, clean, and willing to change things so that you’re 100% happy with the results. His line work is outstanding, and his way of color blending is amazing. He’s very friendly and personable which makes the time fly by. He breaks down the process of aftercare, and makes sure you leave happy and with all your questions answered.

I didnt end up getting work the day I went in, however the staff was very friendly, the shop was nice and clean, and they def had their act together, as a good tattoo shop should. Would have gotten work done, but there is always a wait for a good artist, and I was only in town for a few days. Great shop!!

After so many amazing experiences I have had with Glenn at Broken Lantern tattoo, I decided that I would not go anywhere else. However, at a moment of weakness I allowed myself to be tattooed by someone at a “tattoo party” for my friend’s birthday. I would like to thank Glenn Collins for cleaning up the aftermath. I have definitely learned my lesson!

Came to Broken Lantern for a sleeve and they have the best service and accommodations you can ask for. Their artists are extremely talented and efficient and their staff will work with you for all your requirements and time constraints.

Broken Lantern Tattoo Shop is the very best # 1 Shop in the Charleston Area SC USA. This is where I got my 1st Tattoo. I am planning to come back to Broken Lantern to get more Tattoos and Tre Smith is my Tattoo Artist that did my Palmetto Tree with the Crescent Moon. He is a very excellent Tattoo Artist and he really did a good job with my Tattoo and I love it so much. Oh what to say...... I will start with everyone who works at this shop is amazing!!!! I myself have not been inside the shop yet BUT I have gotten two tattoos by Chris. I got my first one in DC at a tattoo expo back in January. Chris is amazing. I told him I would like a pin up of Snow White and I wanted it to have something to do with the Navy. That’s it. What I got was beyond my wildest imagination. He went above and beyond!!!! I just got another amazing Koi Fish tattoo from him over the weekend and it turned out once again better than I could have imagined!!!! Chris is so respectful, sweet kind and made me feel sooo comfortable. While he was doing my Koi Fish he would stop from time to time just to make sure I was ok and was not in too much pain. He is hands down one of the best tattoo artist ever. I will always go to him for tattoos no matter where I live. Thank you again Chris for the two gorgeous tattoos. My boyfriend and I were in Charleston and he decided to get a tattoo, we looked up the Broken Lantern and it had a high rating so we decided to go there. Little did we know this was about to be a TERRIBLE EXPERIENCE! My boyfriend went in to get a tattoo, just a simple anchor, and they rushed straight through the entire time. The tattoo is very crooked, and couldnt just simply stay within the outline. We then went back the next day to see if there was something they could do to fix it then instead of having to wait for it to heal to fix it, the man at the front desk was very rude, and more worried about my boyfriend making sure his hands were clean before he touched his own tattoo, then the artist who ruined the tattoo.

This establishment has a wonderful vibe from start to finish. Rachel did an awesome job on my thigh tattoo; she was so nice and funny. I can honestly say this was my best tattoo experience!

Got my tattoo about a year ago. Looking at it now, and looking at other tattoo shops I will never go here again. Price would have been fine if the tattoo looked good. $410 wasted, in 2 1/2hr it was partially complete, the guy was ready to close shop so he said I had to come back in 6 weeks to finish shading(I couldn’t because I work and I can’t just close shop whenever I want). I was a newbie. Now I know the artist went to fast, went to deep, scammed me, and overall didn’t care that this is a permanent change to ones body.From some tats I’ve seen from there, they can do good. Which sucks even more because I see mine!

Was only in town for a bachelorette weekend and looked these guys up for some quick pieces. The staff was so friendly and really spent their time and effort into making my ideas turn out perfect. Chris was my tattoo artist and he was AMAZING! If I’m ever back in the area I will for sure visit these guys again!!

I went here the first Sunday of November, and was just so disappointed. The receptionist was great, but my artist (Cat) was just so unenthusiastic. You could tell she didn’t want to be there. There was another male artist there that didn’t take any clients. Me and my friend waiting three hours for her to scar my skin/tattoo.

The absolute best place in charleston! I only have glen Collins do my tattoos but the other artists there are great as well. Very friendly/welcoming vibe to this place! I highly suggest having your work done here!

I just got my second tattoo last night, my first at Broken Lantern. Tre did a great job and Im so happy with my result! Everyone there was super nice and I felt completely comfortable the whole time. If I ever get another tattoo, I would definitely use BLTS.

What can I say? Totally blown away on a few different levels. The tattoo I knew was gonna be slam dunk because I have seen some of Joes work, one if which I was there when he inked a friend. Staff were amazing, very friendly answered any questions and went above and beyond in making you comfortable both times I visited. The facility was spotless, atmosphere, music could not have been better. If you are thinking about getting a tattoo, you’d be a fool not to stop by and check them out. You won’t regret it.

These artists are some of the best in town that Ive come across. They are very professional and dedicated to their work and clients. The receptionist girl is very knowledgeable and pleasant when setting up and designing my tattoo.

AS ONE who never had a tattoo, I wanted to ensure that I did my research of local artists and studios prior to selecting one. After reading the reviews of Broken Lantern on Google compared to other artist studios, I decided to go with them. Setting up the appointment and getting consultation was as easy as walking in and speaking to the kind girl at the front desk. I setup my appointment a week in advance, paid a deposit, and was back a week later for the work.JOE PEREZ, one of the artists, performed the work on the half-sleeve tribal I got on my left shoulder. Joe, a former Marine/EOD vet and a new father, was perhaps the best person I could have gotten to get my first (and probably last) tattoo. I will admit: I have a low pain tolerance but he managed to keep my attention off of the sensitive areas during the entire 4 hour job. He was very conversational and we even shared a good number of laughs. I even joked with him that in a few years, his personal studio wall of art will be replaced with crayon drawings from his kid. =)JOES WORK on my half-sleeve tribal was phenomenal; I could not have asked for anything better. I gave him a general idea of what I wanted, he rendered the concept art on my shoulder, I looked it over in the mirror, and liked it. After outlining it with a ballpoint pen, he again asked me to double-check the design to make sure I was absolutely sure. I took a deep breath and 4 hours later I was thoroughly in love with the work he performed.AS AN ARTIST, Joe is easily among the top in the area, perhaps the state. He is very thorough, clean, and even discussed measures on proper care and safety. As a person, I couldn’t have asked for someone better. As a facility, Broken Lantern is unequivocally superior to other studies I’ve witnessed from afar. The moment you walk in, you are met with a lobby touting a floor that was probably clean enough to eat off of. All of the equipment was well maintained from the ink guns down to the bathroom to the chair I sat in. They even have a pool table out front for waiting guests.I NEVER THOUGHT I would get a tattoo but now that I did, I question why I waited so long. I had a lot of anxiety before entering a tattoo studio; I admittedly even held some misperceptions. Broken Lantern, however, shattered them all. I am a 35 year old father/step-father of 6 girls, a full-time law student, and I consider myself a moral person. If I can do it, you can. And if you so choose to do so, go nowhere else than Broken Lantern.

If you are looking for a portrait perfect tattoo then this is the place. I wouldnt recommend going anywhere else. The staff at Broken Lantern are friendly, outgoing, and charismatic. And the prices wont break your legs.

Anywhere but here. They were less than impressed to have me as a customer. I picked out a simple little X, that would become a work in progress. This X is about the size of a quarter and only took about 15 minutes. The artwork is ok but the price was a ripoff. They charged me $150. I wish I had never went there. Save your money and find ANY other shop. They dont care about anything but the money. Customers arent important.

We travel from Florida just to see Glen Collons !!! Not only is he down to earth, wicked sense of humor, lol a big teddy bear! Haha He patience. Willing to work with you. Wont bite !!! . I am from Chicago. I had emailed these people over a month before my vacation to SC, in an attempt to get some sort of a gauge on a price for a specific armband that I attached to my email. The remote customer service stellar! The issue of price was initially explained to me as a $150 hourly rate, and I would be booked for 3 hours. Well, I’m relatively new to the tattoo addiction but I know that a potential $450 bill for a friggin armband was a little steep! I replied requesting a flat rate and, I mentioned that I could not see that armband costing any more than $250. I was granted a flat rate in their email reply and from there I made the appointment. I had ASSumed that $250 was the agreed upon price. Fast forward to my visit to the shop- I spoke to a different lad who worked up front. He took my design to Joe who told him to tell me $350. Wrong! I declined. Then I regretted declining later in the day- I called them and asked the guy if he could ask Joe (God forbid I speak to the artist directly) to meet me half way at $300. I was told I’d get a call back. Took over 24 hours to get that call and the call was actually to confirm my appointment time- not even about the negotiation! But, I was told that Joe could widen the gaps in my design and basically fudge it to make the $300 work to his advantage. Yeah, garbage service! Maybe Joe didnt want to do my particular tattoo, and THAT is why he quoted such an astronomical price?! Who knows. I took my business to a different place in Charleston and got my armband at nearly HALF OFF of what Joe quoted!! It looks awesome too! It was smart business to shop elsewhere.

After working with a few other local shops and being less than thrilled with their work, I came across Broken Lantern and was immediately blown away by the completed pieces that I saw. I dropped by and chatted with Cameron about some of my ideas. He immediately set me up with Angelo, who worked with me to talk through some concepts and come up with a piece that exceeded my expectations. I plan to come back and continue work on finishing out my sleeve.

I researched tattoo parlors before visiting Charleston and found this one, highly rated. After getting a small tattoo on my wrist, had it done and found it to be done too deep and now looks like a water color tattoo... very disappointed as this is a forever mark.

My mom and I got matching tattoos by Rachel and we love them! Everyone was friendly, the environment was nice. I will definitely go back for my next tattoo!

Had Tre work on the beginnings of a tree silhouette sleeve. He was very open to my ideas and very creative with the whole process. There was a lot of shading needed and he performed beyond my expectations. I look forward to going back and having more work done by Tre. He was friendly and patient and made the 2+ hours go by so easily. I know he did a fine job, because my tattoo healed super fast and came out immaculate. I would recommend Tre to do any type of black/shading piece for sure. Thanks guys.

In south Carolina from Dayton ohio and looked this place up, it was my first tattoo and definatly a way better experience than I was expecting. I felt very comfortable with the staff and felt though they really cared about what I wanted and making sure it was exactly the way I wanted it. If im ever back in town they will be my first choice.

Got my first tattoo here and I know Ill never regret it. Paul was as psyched about my tattoo as I was and he even came up with ideas Id never think to add which ended up blowing what I thought about getting out of the water. Everyone there does amazing work.

Went to Joe after seeing a friends tatoo that was so realistic you wanted to touch it. He redid an old horrible tattoo and made it better then I ever hoped for. Had another peice done by him that im more then happy with. The pic I gave him had irredecent colors in it and he did an awesome job matching it in the tatt. Now I have to have him redo another another tatt because it looks like crap next to his work.Hes also pretty gentle, I was falling asleep during one of them. Everything has healed quickly and easily.The shop is clean, the people are cool and the music is good.
