My favorite thing about tattoo shops is everyone just hanging out and chopping it up, and not only does Fish Ladder have plenty of that, they have banter in a way where you can tell they all actually like each other. Oh also my tattoo looks excellent.

Have been tatted twice here. First time several years ago by Eric Jenks who is no longer there, but co-founded the place. The other more recently by Rick Woods (pic). Always a phenomenonal experience.

Wonderful shop. Super clean, very friendly staff. Richard was my artist and he was very helpful, friendly and knowledgeable. My tattoo turned out beautiful and he made sure I knew how to care for it during and after its healing. Highly recommend.

My best friend got her first tattoo here ! everyone there is super down to earth and the whole place is brimming with talent.

The shop has a great atmosphere, clean, friendly staff. All the artists are very welcoming and conversational. I have a few pieces from Cam and they all surpassed my hopes and expectations. I would highly recommend him to anyone! I fly from Canada just for his exceptional work.

I have had two tattoos done here by Chris Fox, and I would HIGHLY recommend him and this shop! The shop is very clean, and all the artists are really nice and professional. I am planning to continue going to this shop for my future tattoos! They are very easy to get ahold of, prices are really reasonable, artwork is beautiful.... Chris is very patient, and answers all of my questions! He did the two tattoos I have, and even though they were really simple compared to the complex artwork I am sure he can do, he still took the time and effort to do them beautifully! Cant wait to get my next one in January!

Cam Pohl is an incredible artist. He puts so much effort into making sure every little detail of your tattoo is perfect, and I love that. The depth and dedication he puts into his work is one of the many reasons I chose to go to him... After years of going somewhere else. I had him tattoo one of his famous girls on me and Im in love with it. Its absolutely breathtaking. Im repeatedly asked by strangers where I got it done and their response 9/10 times is, I knew it was Cams work or Id recognize his tattoos anywhere. When I want to get another tattoo, Ill be going back to Cam.

The humans and animals alike at Fish Ladder Tattoo are pretty amazing and do excellent work. My artist was Fox - and he was topnotch throughout the whole process. He asked for examples and I gave him a million ideas that I had in my head with examples. He was upfront and honest about what to expect about the process and in the end, I landed on a thigh piece of one of my all favorite games, Bioshock and he took it from there! When I got to the shop, I was greeted by Frank, who hopped right up next to me on the bench to sit next to me to fill my paperwork out. As an animal lover, this made my day! The stencil was pretty dang spiffy, it was everything I was looking for and a bag of BBQ potato chips! Im super excited to go back for my next session!!

I came in for a walk in appointment and ended up getting Mike Force as my artist. My experience was amazing-- the tattoo was drawn up quickly, applied excellently (a tough ask with lettering, but it looks amazing), and Mike himself was great. Whats more, none of the staff or artists batted an eye when I came in with my service dog, which was something I had been worried about. If I decide to get another tattoo while in the area, Ill definitely be coming back here.

Would definitely recommend this place to anyone! We had a really bad experience at a different place and waited an 1.5 hours for the guy to show up for a scheduled appointment, and went to Fish Ladder and instantly felt welcomed. An artist named Mike got us in right away! It was my little brothers first tattoo experience, and they made it a great one!

My 16 year old and myself wanted to get a tattoo, but being the babies we are, we were scared it would hurt too much. We finally decided we were going to do it. We decided on a small tattoo that literally would take 30 seconds, but had a meaning to us as a family. We went to Fish Ladder and Mike Force did them for us. He was superb!! He put us both at ease and made it so we werent worried at all. Turns out it wasnt even half as bad as we thought. Thanks, Mike, for making us feel ok about being scared and reassuring us that it would all be fine! Hope to go back and get something a little more creative next time!

Mike force did an amazing job on my tattoo! Reasonably priced. And everyone there was friendly and welcoming. The space was comfortable and also very immaculate. Covid-19 procedures were performed care.

I was introduced to Fish Ladder Tattoo Company by a friend who had got tattoos done there before. I looked through the portfolios and chose to have Cam Pohl tattoo my sons name on my forearm. I was very impressed with the time and effort he put into making sure the tattoo was exactly what I wanted. The pricing and atmosphere at the shop was excellent. Very clean and exactly what you expect from a tattoo shop. I have spent the better part of the last 2 years there getting tattoos done by Cam. I now have some excellent one of a kind artwork done. I would recommend Cam Pohl and Fish Ladder Tattoo Company to anyone looking for a tattoo in Lansing.

I didnt use them because they dont have a piercer presently. I called to get an appt. Left a message. Got a very polite, professional return call. In this search for a piercing over left calls with 5 shops. Only Ladder took the time to call me back.

Got a tattoo of a piece of flash art by Chris Fox, well worth the wait as a walk in. He was really professional and even apologized for the wait. Once we got going he even asked multiple times if I was doing ok and where my pain level was at which is unnecessary, but always appreciated! The tattoo has healed really well and I have an appointment with a different artist in a week! Great shop, just wish I didnt have to drive an hour to get there lol

My boyfriend and I went in to get what he wanted. He wanted a simple 1 1/2 inch cross on his hand. They denied him because he wasnt heavily tattooed; that one day in the future it would cost him his job.. I understand they are trying to help but it should be what the customer wants. We didnt go in there for what they wanted to do..

I won a free tattoo from an Instagram giveaway by Cam Pohl. His artwork is absolutely incredible, Ill give him that, but my experience with him was unbelievably shameful. He was very rude, insulting, very unprofessional. He had friends visiting him in and out of the session which made me very uncomfortable. I was delighted with my tattoo, but to be quite honest I will never go back to him and I will never recommend him to anyone.

Ive been coming to Fish Ladder since they first opened. My original artist has always been Eric for the past 9 years, but due to certain circumstances he hasnt been able to tattoo. I was really hesitant on going to another artist because obviously Ive never had one. I decided I needed a new piece so I threw the idea out to Cam Pohl. Not only did he go above and beyond in making my piece unique, he was very professional about it. I didnt want anything tweeked because it was exactly what I wanted without having to go into extensive details. He is very talented in his craft and extremely percise. The amount of work that was completed that day was done in a great time without many stops. I highly recommend giving this dude a opportunity to blow your mind with amazing work.

Eric did a great job on my shoulder, nice thin lines and the coverage in the full areas looks awesome, shading is excellent. Fast and accurate. Shop was clean and neat. Will get more from him!

Called early and asked if they had time for three walk ins (3 families members wanted to get tattoos together after reuniting in years) was told that they had ample time for walk in from 12-5, walked in at 3pm and was told by different person that the artists are actually overbooked and was not told by the previous employee that we were coming. not even an apology was given, I can appreciate a mix up, but to act like because some one else made a mistake at a business, you somehow arent responsible, not even to say sorry, is wrong, every employee represents your business, if one makes a mistake, you apologize for it. Whack.

Great place, very professional and talented artists, great atmosphere

Ive been going to Fish Ladder for several years and I am so in love with my recent tattoo I got from Chris Boilore. Chris took my random thoughts/ideas and transformed them in to something much more beautiful than I ever could have imagined! People are always asking me where I go and I cant recommend FLTC enough! The shop is clean, the atmosphere is welcoming, and the artists are always interested in the work being done around them. You can tell that everybody respects each other and takes pride in their artistry.

Fish Ladder is THE shop in the Lansing area. I have been tattooed multiple times at this shop and absolutely recommend coming here. They have never made me feel uncomfortable or unwelcome. Thank you guys for being here!

Fish and Ladder Tattoo is the best tattoo parlor I have ever been. Cam Pohl is superior in his skill as an artist. My Vincent Van Gogh sleeve is perfection and I have no complaints for their service because it is the best.

They have some really talented artists, but the atmosphere was toxic. Went in looking for an artist to do my husbands back piece--full back. Talked to an artist who clearly wasnt interested in it happening there. Found a much better option

My only tattoo is from this location, and I will never go anywhere else. The prices are a little on the high side but you get what you pay for and with something so permanent, why would you not pay for the best? You can see their work for yourself on social media. If you live even sort of close to the Capitol, dont go anywhere else. Or do and theyll fix it for you!

My daughters took me for my first tattoo. Had a wonderful time. I would highly recommend this place and also our tattoo artist Mike Force he was very talented.

Cam is a great artist and great to sit with; I travel the country and always get asked about who does my work. Always love coming in. Only shop in Lansing I recommend to friends.

Look around at portfolios and you will see the quality. I wouldnt go anywhere else. Especially in Lansing. Awesome guys and awesome work. I have spent over 10 hours in the chair with Eric and I have no plans on going elsewhere.

Consider this one star rating a negative five. I received a tattoo on my sternum from Cam Pohl in November 2016. While I shouldnt have agreed to the design off the bat and scrutinized it more (I do take fault in that) the execution of the tattoo was not even worth a dollar. Where to start, the tattoo I received started to blow out (ink bleeding), the lines were extremely crooked (nothing close to what the original sketch was like, and the jewel centerpiece turned into a hideous blob. Not to mention he added gradient dots that were not on the original design without my consent. Also getting a sternum tattoo with only one break, no water offered, and no concern to my well being was not a great experience. As soon as I noticed the signs of a very bad tattoo, I immediately tried to get in contact with Pohl but he ignored my attempts. At this point I reached out to the owner of the shop, Eric Jenks. He then lit some fire under Pohls butt to get back to me but at this point Ive become so frustrated at the unprofessionalism shown by Pohl, that I did not want him touching me again and making the disaster worse. I asked for my money back minus my tip to compensate for Pohls time, he said no. Pohl said all i can do is attempt to fix what you see is wrong. if youre not allowing me to do that then what you do is up to you. So now I am left with a HIDEOUS thick lined and patchy tattoo that was meant to be delicate and feminine. Absolutely consider going elsewhere for your tattoo, unless you want subpar, unprofessional work done. I am saving now to get this terrible experience lasered off of my body or covered up by a competent artist - Very upsetting! Pictures for reference will be posted on Yelp.

Ive trusted Cam To complete over 35 hours of tattooing (on a full left sleve and chest piece )Creativity, badass shading and unique design come with Cam.Dont settle for less . After seeing repeated comments like this on his social media & in person, I could never be comfortable in a shop that allows someone so disrespectful to profit from tattooing the same bodies hes degrading. Maybe the owners dont feel the same, as Ive had no personal interaction with them, but I wouldnt feel right contributing to them through an employee that contradicts the entire concept of appreciation for the body being art.
