Gretchen did a phenomenal job on this memorial design of my dog. I’ve wanted this tattoo for a while and Gretchen was able to make my ideas come to life. She was very thorough in the whole work process, was welcoming when I came for the tattoo, and I felt pricing was fair for what service she provided. This was my first time getting a piece this big, and I am very happy with the work! Would happily go back again, and recommend to all my friends!

I can’t say enough good things about Gretchen! She is amazing. She did 6 of my tattoos and they are my favorites! Her artistry is amazing. She is kind and pays attention the details. She did an amazing portrait of my dog Tyson (may he rest in peace). She captured his expression and personality perfectly! I also gave her an idea of what I wanted and she created exactly what I needed! I asked for a flying pig with a dog paw print holding a flower. She came up with the coolest design. I won’t go anywhere else but to Gretchen!

Tattoo Charlies is always an amazing experience for me. Ive been going there for 10 years and have no interest in going anywhere else. Jeremiah and Gretchen are amazing at what they do, and very committed to their passion. They really take their work to a different level of creativity. I would absolutely recommend going here if you dont want shitty art work. It is worth the wait!!

The woman who did my tattoo was so rude, her name is Cretchen, she did what she wanted without asking my opinion, if that was the case why didnt she tell me before doing it that I would get the tattoo my way and not copy anyone, when she done tattoo on my foot she covered the tattoo with a white sticker while I didnt have time to see clearly what the tattoo looked like, I only saw the top corner of the tattoo, she did everything so fast without asking the customer if she really liked it! i was willing to pay as requested as well as give extra $43tips and thought about taking it off to see if it was good but i was so disappointed and sad that i couldnt sleep at night! the tattoo was so different from what i showed her the previous picture, she made it bigger and darker than i thought, it was so different even 100% different

Gretchen was great to work with, caring and thoughtful.I gave her the idea I wanted and she created a lifetime memory and did an impeccable job applying it to my body.I would give a 10 stars not just 5!!!If you want perfection go to Gretchen, you wont be disappointed!!!

I got my nose pierced from Gretchen over a week ago. No issues at all. I got a hoop which I had always wanted but didnt think I could get a new piercing with one. Absolutely Love It!!! I also bought a nose ring while I was there to swap out later. Went back in the day after and she was able to answer my questions with no hesitation. I am new to nose piercings so I needed some guidance lol. She was very helpful. Highly recommend!!!

Gretchen was rude and lacked customer service. Did not get what I wanted when I went. Completely did her own thing without any consultation. If she’s your option I would avoid her.

Since I am not able to respond to this review the quote on quote company has written, Let me set the record straight by saying I did not go in there yelling and surely was not disrespectful until y’all started treating my mom like she knew nothing. You said I accused you of being shady. That’s not true and shame on you for saying that. I told you that you need not to be covering up for employees bad behaviors. Let someone treat your mom like that and show us how calm you can be, because I certainly cannot and will not. You also skipped the part when your employee started questioning me if I had proof of recording that she once told us she charges per hour.You guys come underneath these reviews to justify poor behaviors and to make it seem as if the consumers are lying/exaggerating. That’s absolutely insane. And with being called racist, there’s a first to everything. You guys may have never been accused of it for however long y’all have been a company doesn’t mean y’all don’t exhibit such attitude towards clients. AND IT DOES NOT MATTER IF MY MOTHER SAYS SHE IS WILLING TO PAY FOR THE JOB. IT DONT MEAN CHARGE HER UNREASONABLY HIGH. THATS CALLED RIPPING PEOPLE OFF. In other words, stealing. And don’t come responding to a review with an apology then being shady with it and trying to prove a point when you’re not willing to speak to your disrespectful staffs about their unprofessional behaviors. I will say again, if you are black, Charlie tattoos is not the best spot for you. Not with the team I met today.So my mom had an appointment with “Gretchen” and it’s the most terrible experience she’s ever had and one I have ever seen. She had a service that she wasn’t given a price range for and when she got done, she was charged 536$ + deposit fee 100$ for only half of the work. The way the staffs spoke to her was so bad. Not sure if it has to do anything with her race(my mom), but the artist refused to continue with her service because she questioned her price. It’s such an inhumane thing to do to a submissive client who had questions and thought she wasn’t priced right. My mother was willing to continue with her service but the artist was incredibly rude and said she’s not willing to do so, for what reason exactly; we don’t know. Sometimes, it’s not how much the clients pay, it’s how they are talked to. Some people are new to the prices of these things, might have questions and may feel as though they’re being overcharged, so there’s no reason to speak down to them or be rude. You can be polite with sticking to your price. Gretchen and her other coworker(some lady) were so rude and lack basic customer service. PLEASE SAVE YOURSELF SOME MONEY AND TIME FOR SOMEWHERE BETTER ESPECIALLY IF YOU ARE A PERSON OF COLOR. YES, I said that. IF YOU ARE BLACK, do not go there.

I have spent more than a few hours sitting there! I have a full sleeve on one arm and 2 lower sleeves on my legs.Jeremiah has done all my art work (amazingly I might add) and I actually consider him a friend now!

Got an earlobe pierced. Previous piercings were uneven (thanks walmart from 30 years ago). Virtual queue, after-care thoroughly explained, and very kind. Thank you!

Got two tattoos the same day from this location about 15 years ago. Two Japanese symbols or whatever you call it. One was supposed to mean honor the other respect and both on my chest. I picked the tattoos from their books of tattoos, so it shows the english translation underneath the symbol. Last night I used google image to translate my tattoos because I couldn’t remember which one meant what, so I google imaged one and it came out to be honor, I google imaged the other and instead of respect it translated to “expensive”. I thought it was a fluke, so my wife and I did more research and it came out to actually be the symbol for expensive. I wonder if the artist knew what he was permanently putting on my skin or was it a mistake in their tattoo books. Either way, it was a long time ago, so it’s not a big deal.

I usually get my tattoos done by Dave but sad to say I recently found out he no longer workers their.So Gretchen did my sunflower tattoo. I am not a fan she was rude not descriptive on what she was doing or was about to do. There was no detail at all in my stencil so I didn’t really know what my tattoo was going to look like before she got started. I started getting really hot and uncomfortable she didn’t do anything to make me comfortable while getting my tattoo done. I asked if they had water I could get she said ‘ yea theirs a water machine by the front door, you can get it when your done’. Very unprofessional. I have many tattoos and experienced different tattoo artists but this by far was the worst. Will not be recommending her to anyone. My boyfriend had Jeremiah that same time and day and he was great. So kind! Very talkative. None the less I will not be returning. Edit ( I put this review in right after I got my work done. I just recently edited it saying I won’t be returning. An its the fact you never even acknowledged the terrible service I had. And I clearly stated that Dave was no longer there.

Used to be much betterSon got a tattoo from a new artist which was way smaller than other tattoos and the price was same and it took almost 5 hours. Was shocked really.

Do not get your lip pierced here! My friend had just got hers done yesterday and had to have it took out cause they used the wrong size lip stud in her lip and done it way tooo close to her lip looked like it was on her lip, and her lip was swelling up so bad it was starting to swell over the piercing and the lady who took it out for her told her if she didnt take it out sooner shed have to go to the emergency room, plus charged 70 dollars! When every other tattoo shop I know charges around 40-50 dollars, if yall want a good looking decent lip piercing I definitely recommend NOT going here and for the record for your VERY unprofessional response the lady did not check with her to see if thats where she wanted the piercing she just dotted and pierced and I know lips are supposed to swell we went to 2 different shops and each one told us yall used the wrong size bar and did it way to close to her lip, and yes it was infected, as soon as the other piercer took it out white/green puss came out her lip

Ian is awesome! I showed him exactly what I wanted, and he did it. We talked through the wild colors I wanted and he made it happen. I highly recommend him. Loving my new tattoo ❤.

Everyone at this facility is 5 stars. From check in to check out the whole staff is friendly and professional. Jeremiah is the best artist on the planet! Friendly, talented and enthusiastic. You will not find a better shop around.

Tried to get a hoop for my conch, before getting it, my boyfriend told her it was a 16g and she used a gauging tool to get me to a 16. It went through like butter. The jewelry she picked didn’t fit my diameter. She charged me $10 for “jewelry changing” and told me she was supposed to charge me $30 extra for the piercing we didn’t get. I WALK IN AND OUT IN 10 MIN WITH NOTHING. SHE SAID SHE WASNT THE MAIN PIERCER.

My first piercing experience about a year ago was amazing. I got my septum pierced yesterday and my piercer was hella rude and had zero manners. She acted like I was a pest and a bother to her. Very unpleased :(

Was rude when I got my nose pierced and acted as if it was a problem. Went there to get nose ring out and was rude af as well and even tried to pay them. Definitely need to work on their approach with the public. I wanted to sit there and wait and they told me basically to leave after I told them, I had nothing else to do that I would wait and then I didn’t care to wait they still insisted that I leave!

First time here and the lady who attended to me was not the least bit hospitable. She had an attitude all through. No empathy whatsoever! Don’t know if she’s always like that or if she was simply having a bad day. She poked my ear so hard and then basically yelled at me cos I shrugged in pain. She said to me “Stop doing that! That’s what happens when you don’t let the earring stay in.” She was so rude about it. Like lady, I’m not suppose to react to pain? What am I? A rock? If that’s how she treats customers, she shouldn’t be doing this job. I will not be returning here!

I got in within hour or so after signing in online for appt. Dave was patient and encouraging when it got tough to hang in through the tattoo. He has a great sense of humor and well, does great work too!! I highly recommend them, prices are very reasonable and you know you will get a good tattoo in the end. I am still healing but it’s looking exactly as I expected and hoped for! Thank you again Dave!!

Got my nostril pierced at a different shop and came to Jess to get it fixed. They did an amazing job. Came back later to change the post and when my jewelry fell apart Jess worked with me to replace it. I also got my conch pierced that day and it has been a very smooth healing process. I will not get pierced anywhere else. I drive from bowling green and it’s worth it every time.

I have 2 tattoos they did and both by different artists!! I would recommend this place to anyone that wants a tattoo done and if you want it done correctly!!

I love my tattoo! Gretchen did a great job! 1/18/22 and it has healed great! Didnt have any issues with it at all. Photo is from right after it was done but it still looks that great!

This place is a super cool, professional shop! I followed Matt all the way down here from Indiana to get tattooed. He is not only an amazing artist, but gives you an awesome tattoo experience overall. He does everything from his own designs to creating completely custom pieces for you. I 10/10 would recommend Matt if you are looking to get tattooed!

This Tattoo Shop is top notch with some of the best tattoo artists in the city of Louisville and beyond! Lets be honest here.....bad tattoos are a pandemic. These days everyone has a tattoo but very few people have quality work that stands the test of time. If you go here you will get quality work in a clean and professional environment. I have gotten 2 full sleeves from Jeremiah (the shop owner) and plan on getting more work done in the near future. I have 4 tattoos, all done at either this location, or the Preston location. My latest, most badass tattoo was done by Ian, and he seemed as excited to do it as I was to get it. Ive had my one of a kind pin up girl for about 6 months now, and she looks just as clean as if Id gotten her done a couple weeks ago. Price was fair for the work done, and always has been. My daughter and mother both have tattoos done by Gretchen, and theirs also look amazing. Will be back, just as soon as I find my next design!

Tattoo Charlies PRP is mine and my wifes new go to place! Gretchen spent about 7 hours on us Monday and we couldnt be happier with the results. Love getting her input and honest opinion. Seems like thats what you would want from someone putting something permanent on your body. Super clean and awesome staff!

I went in for a belly button piercing sometime in June of 2017 , I had the pleasure of meeting Gretchen, she was great, she walked me thru the process as she was doing it . Fast, fun, easy .me and my twin turned 30 in Jan of 2021, and she said lets get our nose pierced, I suggested we go back to TTC FOR GRETCHEN , WE did it and we love it .Gretchen was fun and very professional.I am looking for new piercing when we are done with this pandemic, and yes I WILL BE GOING BACK TO GRETCHEN AT TTC ON DIXIE❤️

I received a tattoo from Dave of a pistol in a bandana thats tied around my thigh. He did excellent and was reasonable on prices. It took 5.5 hours but was great experience. Very clean very friendly very recommended!!!!

I am 55 years old and had my first Tat! I had Gretchen do it and Was so elated with her work I ended up going home with 3! She is so awesome and made the experience a blast! I will definitely be back! A classy place!

Gretchen is my artist. I go in with a general idea and because Im not the artist, I trust her interpretation of my vision. Ive never been disappointed. The shop is extremely professional and ultimately your health and satisfaction is their main concern.

Clean enough to eat off the floor. Very professional and doing a good thing with the cancer awareness promotion offered Sunday the 10th of November. Very proud to say my wife of 44 years and my self support cancer awareness. Great tattoos will wear them proudly and tell everyone about tattoo Charlies.

Online wait list was easy to navigate and book services. Clean shop, professional staff. Piercing took no time at all, in and out in 15 minutes. Very pleased with service.

After 6 tattoos done here over 8 years I will never go back! That doesnt include touch up work, which was done by the same artist and look worse than before the touch up! Two tattoos done in an hour means they were both rushed and therefore both look like they were done in someones basement! One Im going to eventually have to have covered! Im honestly disappointed in the lack of pride taken in the work I had done a few days ago. Also makes me sorry to any and everyone Ive ever bragged to about this shop and told to go there! Even pictures on the website, facebook page, and Google reviews of other work is horrible! Maybe Im crazy for wanting my tattoos to look good, professional, and not to be rushed because I was on the wait list. If youre going to rush through wait list costumers dont have one!

This was just a really bad experience! A friend suggested that I get my nipples pierced because I have problems with my breast and dont like them, I figured it would be a great solution verses the breast augmentation Ive been considering. Theres nothing that sucks more than you doing something to make you feel better about yourself just to walk away feeling worse😭. Gretchen did my nipple piercings and ended up doing my right nipple TWICE! I went back the next day to see if she could finally get it right and she told me that it turned out the way it did because of my anatomy🤔. I dont have inverted nipples an theyre the same in size. I normally do my own piercings and have been doing so for the past 12years however I felt someone else doing my nipples would turn out better because of their view, NOPE WRONG. I ended up going home and using my own sterile equipment and needles and redid it myself. Turns out I know more about anatomy than people who get paid to. I definitely will not be going back nor would I recommend my family or friends. Maybe they do better with some people 🤷🏽, however I know my experience was just all badMessage to owner: anatomy obviously didnt play as big of a part as one wanted me to believe ESPECIALLY SINCE ITS NOW PIERCED THE CORRECT WAY FROM SOMEONE WITH LESS EXPERIENCE THAN SOMEONE WITH 20 YEARS EXPERIENCE. Im sorry I made the mistake of visiting your shop as well

I wanted to get at tattoo Charlies because of the name and the wonderful artwork that I see coming out of the shop.I stated off communicating with an artist via email sharing my sketches for 2 weeks before I tried to set up an appointment.For some reason their website will not let me log in with my Facebook page in order to make an appointment. The artist did not tell me their next available open appointment via email I had to go digging on their website to find out that he is not officially available until July.At that time I tried to sign up for their virtual waitlist. Every time I tried to sign in for their virtual wait list I ended up being fourth or fifth in line. One day I thought that I was going to be able to get in however but it was getting too close to closing time fifth in line.Feeling Fed Up I ended up calling another studio they told me their schedule and was able to get fit in. Took my sketches to them and had a wonderful experience.

Won’t go to any other shop, these folks are amazing and super professional. Their work is on point and will not disappoint. I have my 6th tat appointment with them in April. I’ve only been tattooed by Jeremiah and Gretchen but I’m sure the rest of the staff does amazing work as well.

Piercer was not the friendliest but she did a quick clean nose piercing job Ill give her that! Barely hurt cause it was so fast!

WARNING: This review is longUnfortunately I had a bad experience with the piercer, Gretchen.I had my both my helixs pierced by her in June of 2017. Looking back Im realizing all the red flags I had missed.1) She piercing both my helixs while I was sitting up. People can faint while getting a piercing; thus why professional piercers prefer lying their clients down. If a person faints while sitting up, they will fall, if they fall they can a) get injured b) bust their head open c) bust their head open and have life long injuries. Then you have a lawsuit on your hands for malpractice.2) She told me to use Dial. Not a big deal but it is a bad idea, Dial is a no-no. It is way to harsh on your piercings and will prolong healing time. Its also stated in the APP brochure she printed off and gives to her clients.3) Her piercing soap is actually rebottled hand soap. To be specific, Softsoap: Antibacterial: Scent: Crisp Clean! Came across it by accident and connected the dots. Also, but a big deal but does scream SCAM. So my advice: dont get scammed! Just buy a bottle at your groceries store!Fast forwarding to a year (June 2018) I returned to her because I was having problems with one piercing. I told her it was still crusty and flares up; her reply was you slept on it. I never mentioned my sleep habits but I try staying off of it at night, Im not dumb. I replied with can you look at it though? Because she hadnt even looked at it and was telling me I slept on it. She glanced at it and told it was fully healed. Then she tried selling me an $80 (think that was the price, just know it was over the top expensive) stud that was smaller than the bar! It would just slip right through my piercing!The reason for me making a review now is that I recently decided to retire the piercing (because it wasnt healing and I was tired of being afraid of it getting infected) and it closed up and scabbed over immediately, which is doesnt happen with healed piercings. Now you cant even tell I ever had a piercing. It was also a year and 10 months old.On the bright side! My other piercing is completely fine and fully healed! I even changed the jewelry a few times (with surgical steal jewelry, of course).Gretchens I know more about your piercing than you do and I dont even need to look at it attitude has resulted in me vowing to never returning to Tattoo Charlies. Specially this location. And I highly doubt Im the only one, given her reviews. Ive noticed a running theme with Gretchen is how dismissive she is with her clients and how she thinks she knows more about their bodies than they do. 20 years of experience is not a good arguing point if those 20 years were spent practicing malpractice. I think Gretchen will benefit greatly with proper training (or retraining), even better if she became certified with the Association of Professional Piercers, specially since she uses their brochures. Or in the very least a refresher course.I regret getting too excited about getting piercings and thought 20 years and a few photos made her a good piercer to go to.Im attaching images before I retired the piercing, the night after I retired and a few days later when the scab fell off. Its a bit hard to see but hopefully it helps someone.

Ive always wanted to get a tattoo from Tattoo Charliess. It was also recommended by a good friend who got a tattoo there already. I made the appt. Gretchen about 2 weeks in advance, paid the $s to reserve my spot and sent a jpeg of the tattoo I wanted and where I wanted it.Today was the day, had to take a vacation day and drive 2 hours to Louisville. We get there at 11:45AM and walked in and was told we had to leave due to a rule that no one could be in the shop until 12 noon on the dot. Okay, seemed a bit strange, so we went back to our car and waited.We go in and do the paperwork and while Gretchen is helping some other people I noticed something was wrong with the art she was going to use for my tattoo. It was backwards. I asked about it and she said it was Tattoo Taboo to put a tattoo on thats facing backwards. And Im okay with that, but why wasnt I told during the two weeks prior before coming up there?I was absolutely upset and didnt understand why there had been no communication from Gretchen regarding this issue. She just made up her mind that this was how it was going to be without consulting the client/customer. Dont get me wrong, I researched her work and chose her specifically, but felt I wasnt given any type of choice whatsoever and she could decide how it was going to be on my body.The tattoo was to be a Scottish Clan Crest, and those of you who are Scottish, would you want your clan crest changed because its supposed to be tattoo taboo?There were other things wrong with the wording that was chosen above what I had sent in and some things deleted without consulting me.Again, Gretchens work on other people looks great and is a reason I chose her. But the level of customer service I received today was unacceptable and I will let anyone know regarding getting a tattoo at the Dixie Hwy parlor.Again Im fine with the tattoo taboo, but I was not consulted before hand. I was even tried to be persuaded to put in/on a place I didnt want it just so the helmet on the crest would be facing forward.Needless to say, I lost a days vacation and a tank of gas to get not get the tattoo I wanted and didnt even get my $100 back.I will continue to go to Tai Orten at Alchemy Nashville for future tattoos and stay clear of Tattoo Charlies.Once again, its okay if there is a Tattoo Taboo regarding direction. But letting the customer know before investing so much time and effort would be beneficial.Robb H.

Was very clean place . wait list idea could use some work . we were in from out of town and we all 4 got tats , nothing big just words for them and me a small flower wrap , no big detail work but mine took along time when all 3 of them was in and out . over all good experiences and tats came out looking fine . just make it a all day thing we had plans to do other stuff but by time wait around didnt have time for much

Tattoo Charlies isnt what its cracked up to be. Got a foot tattoo there and the art work Literally sucks. And its just my sign with flowers. I prolly could of did a better job. And for the price. Yeah right!! Never again. Thanks but no thanks! 😒🙁

Ian gave me my first tattoo. He was very conversational. Also, he gave a quality tattoo with efficiency. I showed a pic of what I wanted, and he gave exactly that. Would recommend!!

HORRIBLE!!! Walked in all Tattoo artists sitting around and NEVER acknowledged us, so we left.. Guess they werent interested in making any money! Its really too bad theyre allowed to use the Tattoo Charlie name So TOTALLY not to the same standards that the name represents!!

These guys and gal are the best, they make you feel like family. They listen to your ideas and make them a piece of art. The work they do is phenomenal, the best in town.

Tattoo Charlie’s is the best. They have very talented artist who are very professional. I have gotten my last two tattoos there and I plan on going back for many more!

I went there about two years ago for my first tattoo ever and really loved it. Now Im considering coming back for my second, the girl who did it was super kind and informative on the aftercare.

Ian (aka Gandalf) was truly GREAT! He took care of us and was super personable. I would definitely recommend!

It was awesome the only thing I would suggested theyd put some type of cloth across your clothes if you are getting a piercing cuz it tends to bleed and it bled on my clothes. Other than that it was fantastic!😉

Had us wait 2 hours. But told us we couldnt wait out in the lobby and then when we got there at the appointment time they made it wait another hour and 45 minutes so they could eat I wouldnt recommend it there anymore
