When I tell you, this was a match made in heaven. I am not joking because James was exactly what I was looking for a tattoo artist. I needed someone to understand my vision, but also give me guidance on what I was trying to create. James is truly an artist who happens to use skin as one of his mediums.He has a very gentle and precise touch. My inner forearm healed in nine days flat with minimal oozing and itching.This experience was so amazing that I already have two more appointments scheduled to do more work with him specifically to create my leg sleeve.

My last couple of larger project tattoos have been done at Aura IV by James Hall. I don’t have enough words to describe how awesome both he and the studio are. First, I willingly make the drive from Houston to be tattooed by him here. The detail, creativity, and time he puts into his tattoos make them remarkable. His skill and technique are something I’ve never encountered before. The studio itself is clean, immaculate vibes, and there’s art gallery nights! Everyone I met at the studio so far is incredibly welcoming. I’ve always felt very comfortable here and can’t wait to come back! If you’re considering a place to be tattooed, look no further.

I got 2 done at the same time by James and Jake and they did an outstanding job. We were in town for a bachelorette party and called Saturday for walk in appointments for 6 people and they accepted all of us. Jake did a majority of them and his fine line work is incredible. Would truly recommend coming to see these guys if you’re in Austin!!

I’ve known James since we were kids in high school. Heck I even have some of his first tattoos. Literally from high school and right out of apprenticeship about 5 years later. We recently started on a sleeve and it’s coming out absolutely incredible. Aura IV hands down is one of the best shops in town no questions asked. They have multiple artist with multiple styles. If you’re looking for a great spot to add some ink, look no further. Also, if you love art in general they host events throughout the year for their art gallery with some incredible artists. I have been working with James Hall a few years now slowly working on my leg sleeve and now on my arm sleeve. I can not begin to brag enough about how much of an amazing artist this man is. Every time I come with an idea and allow creative freedom he never disappoints. I get complements daily on how colorful my pieces are. I’m def a returning client and will always recommend him.His studio is amazing and very welcoming. Every person I’ve encountered at Aura IV has been more than pleasant and helpful. I walk in and feel at home with everyone there. Jake his apprentice has been such a big help in making sure things go smoothly on our appointments.

I drove two and a half hours from Houston to be tattooed at Aura IV Tattoo Gallery by a guest artist. The shop is LOVELY, clean, and comfortable. The staff were all so warm and welcoming. I will gladly make the trip again in the future to be tattooed by one of the resident artists!

Hands down the coolest shop in town and all expectations of what a tattoo shop is are blown away as soon you walk into the gallery. I have had the pleasure of being tattooed by Leolo and Jake, both of whom have a customer for life not just for the quality of their work but also the experience they provided. Everyone in the shop is incredibly knowledgeable, kind, and a pleasure to converse with, and it is apparent that all of them are not only focused on artistry but also providing the best possible experience for anyone who walks through their doors. I worked with James Hall on an entire sleeve that involved coverups of cheap work from when I was younger. Everything from the design process, to the studio, to the talent at the shop, to my actual tattoo was top notch and I couldn’t be happier. The community being built here based on art isn’t something you can find anywhere else in Austin and it really makes the tattoo experience unforgettable. I would recommend AuraIV tattoo gallery to anyone. Aura IV is by far one of the coolest tattoo shops I have been to. The atmosphere is exactly what you want it to be when you walk in. 6 girls in Austin for a bachelorette party wanting to add a little extra fun to the day. Found this place that was willing to take us all in and got it done! I recently got tattooed by James Hall at Aura IV. After this experience, I can honestly say I will never go to another studio/artist.First, the studio: It is impeccably clean. I walked around admiring the art on the wall while James finished setting up his station and I didnt notice a single speck of dirt anywhere. This made me feel so comfortable knowing they genuinely care about their space. The look and feel resembles an art gallery. I wanted to buy every single piece of art on the wall. The talent concentrated in this one location is unbelievable. Theres also a little snack station for clients. Remember to stay hydrated!James Hall: I drove 3.5 hours just to work with him. I found him/his work on IG and didnt know him before this session. I probably spent a little over a year looking for a tattoo artist who matched the style I was looking for. I wanted a quality tattoo to honor my daughter and it was important for me to work with only the best. James and I had a consultation over the phone. He bounced some ideas around and it was hard for me to pick just one lol. When I finally saw the concepts, I was blown away. The process of getting the tattoo was very pleasant... well, as pleasant as it can be while having needles puncture your skin thousands of times a minute. James actually has a very gentle technique. My tattoo took about 7 hours to complete. Im sure he was tired near the end of our session but you would not be able to tell by looking at my tattoo. It came out perfect! Better than I imagined! Im so happy and in love with my tattoo! I cannot wait to work with James again.Attached is a photo. Ill post an update once it heals.

I have done several pieces now with James Hall to finish a full sleeve over the last few years, and let me tell you...he is AMAZING! The Aura IV space is a bright and airy delight. With the art gallery separated from the tattoo area, and each artist with a booth that is both open and comfortably private, Aura IV feels like a luxury experience. The gallery has great events and the artists that booth there are universally amazing. They offer a variety of styles, but work in a friendly and collaborative environment that is a lot of fun. It makes a difference when youre sitting there for multiple long sessions!I waited about ten years to find the right tattoo artist for what I wanted, and Aura IV has it all. I have had multiple great experiences at Aura IV, and from their previous location to their new one, they have only gotten better. They have a true love of cultivating an artist community in and around Texas, which allows for a richer experience when you’re there. The staff is tight knit, friendly and incredibly knowledgeable. I was tattooed by Jake Howse’s talented hand, and felt very taken care of. The space and artists highlight cleanliness and comfort, which make for a great time. I would absolutely go back!

My artist was Josiah and I had the best time with him! He had a wonderful energy kept everything entertaining and we never had a dull moment in the process. It was my first tattoo and he was super light handed and made my tattoo experience amazing! Definitely will be going back!

James Hall is brilliant! I was chosen for the 2022 P.ink Day to receive a mastectomy tattoo, and I can’t thank James enough! I was unfortunately left with a large amount of asymmetry after all the surgeries and radiation, and had been turned down by numerous other artists throughout the years due to the large amount of scarring. James so generously gave his time and expertise in dealing with what can only be called a very flawed canvas, and gave me beautiful results that make me feel like a woman again when I look in the mirror. He honestly cares for his clients and is the best of the best! I will never go to anyone else!!

Learned of this studio after guest artist Mike Tats made an appearance. Turns out the studio is top notch. All of the artists seem super nice and based on their portfolios super talented. The studio is clean and makes you feel at ease the moment you walk in. Not to mention the gallery is full of great pieces of art.I would def come back. Not only did a leave with a great tattoo but also a great impression of the studio.

My first time in was back in September. The shop is very clean and open. The vibe is calm, cool, casual. I felt very comfortable right away here. All of the artists here are amazing at what they do! Every artists style is different, which I loved, it was awesome seeing many different styles of art. Everyone here is friendly as well. James Hall did part 1 of my tattoo.Bottom line: Hes amazing. He isnt heavy handed, and he walks you through everything before you even start! We sat for about 5.5 hours, and had great conversation (very important when youre spending a lot of time with someone lol), and he also checks in through the process to make sure youre doing alright. I have anxiety, and this made it so easy for me to just chill and enjoy the experience. Couldnt recommend this place enough!

Aura IV is not like any other tattoo shop I’ve ever been to. It’s like walking into an art museum. The artists are absolutely bar none in friendliness and ability. The shop is spotless and comfortable with a chill vibe that makes it easy to be there for as long as it takes.To have art like this permanently decorating my body is priceless. I don’t think I can say enough great things about James and the beautiful work of art he created for me. I came to him with a vague idea for a memorial tattoo I wanted in honor of my nephew. What James designed was better than any expectation! Vibrant colors, custom art and a painless delivery made for the most enjoyable experience as well as the perfect tribute to my nephew. There is so much I can say about how amazing the shop is. How open, light, artistic, creative, and welcoming it is. All of those things are amazing, but why this shop is the best in ATX is its artists. The dedication to their craft, their love of art and how they treat their clients makes it the best of the best. I have never felt so welcome and taken care of and Ive had some tattoo horror stories I could tell.And because its just one more thing to show how much the shop and its people care, they do a yearly Breast Cancer initiative. He took my pain and trauma and turned it into the most beautiful art that I am so proud to wear on my body. Not only does his art show how amazingly talented he is, but he is one of the best people Ive met in a long time. He genuinely made me feel like I was sitting and talking to a close friend our first session and since then I am so glad to be able to say we have built a lasting friendship that even if I ever run out of open space, we will keep in touch. I may or may not have a standing monthly appointment to work on my pieces because he has given me back the ability to look in the mirror and love what I see for the first time in my life.I could keep going, but I think you get the picture of why you would 100% pick this shop and its artists as the one to trust with your stories and body. This studio is safe (LGBTQ friendly!), so clean you could eat off the floors, every artist is super professional/dedicated to their craft, and the art that walks out of here is top notch.Ive previously worked with James Hall (as seen below), and his work speaks for itself. I love this studio! Christine is amazing. If you need a photo-realistic tattoo of your furbaby, she is definitely the one to see. The studio itself is clean. Staff is very friendly. It’s not your typical studio…it feels like you are in an art gallery. Off the beaten path, you don’t have all the people walking in looking for flash tattoos or anything, which I like. This place is the place to go if you look at tattooing as an art.

James is a true artist with vision and attention to detail that shows in his work. He did my first tattoo, and gracefully put up with all of my questions and back and forths on design. I worked with James a few years ago on a sleeve / cover up and what he came up with was simply amazing. I was deployed overseas and he kept in contact with me about the process and ideas the whole time. He gave me advice on what I could to to help with the cover up process.When I returned from deployment, I changed up our original idea at the last minute, and he took the new challenge and ran with it. His creativity and ability to take an idea and turn it into a work of art is truly a gift.James cares deeply about his clients and the process, and wants only the best. I had a beautiful hand piece done by James Hall right after Covid hit and shops were allowed to open. It’s been a few years and it’s still as beautiful as the day I got it. I’ve been meaning to write a review for awhile. I was staring at my hand and was like why haven’t I reviewed?? He’s pretty amazing and I was shocked when I seen what he came up with. It’s my favorite tattoo.

Jon Zig is a consummate professional. His work is top notch and the environment in Aura is clean and welcoming. Bar none the best tattoo experience possible!

James helped make my idea come to life! He is very professional and clear in his communication. Not only is his artistry incredible, he really focuses on details. I cannot recommend him enough and look forward to returning to add to my tattoo.

My wife and I have been seeing James for years (5 or 6 years probably). He recently opened up this incredible tattoo and fine art venue. Highly recommend this to anyone looking for a tattoo. Theyll do right by you and if the style isnt right for them, there is someone in the shop who can slay what you want.

Josiah went above and beyond with designing the vision of the forearm sleeve I wanted! The shop is unlike any tattoo place I have ever walked into and I can see how they are bridging the gap between a tattoo shop and art gallery. I cant recommend this place enough!

There is no better artist in Austin than James Hall. His masterful attention to detail and incredible talent make him the epic artist that he is. The complements I receive from his work are never-ending. There is NO one I would trust my body with more and no other studio I would go to other than Aura IV.

I could go on for pages about my incredible experience with James Hall and this upper arm sleeve. 1) I had been looking for a watercolor style specialist for a while, 2) I followed James’ pieces for about 6 months before deciding he was the artist I was looking for. 3) We consulted together with my inspiration board to create the full concept art. This piece was to honor my children - their spirit animals being the Fox/kitsune and the Unicorn. I wanted elements of our prior home (Atlanta ‘jungle/forest) and current home (Austin ‘those incredible sunsets). James blended this into a dusk scene with both of them looking forward, but also towards me (it reminds me that I need to be their role model). The color is still incredible, no bleed or blurring in the lines. I’ll be going back to James for the completion of the sleeve - featuring me (in Phoenix form) and my husband (in stone dragon form) in some sort of symbiotic composition.

James did an amazing job on this yellow rose tribute to my late mother. Highly recommend for a clean and comfortable studio and top notch quality work.

James has done a ton of work for me and I couldnt be happier with the results. He took my input and general ideas for a request and made them into a reality even better than Id imagined. I get complimented on the pieces constantly. To top it off, hes just a good dude and I always had a great time chatting with him while he worked. I highly recommend working with him if you get a chance!

James tattooed a watercolor piece for me a few years ago that turned out beautiful. He was always professional, on time, and happy to do a few touch ups to make it perfect for me. Would highly recommend and will definitely go back to him in the future.

Went to James after my wife got her tattoo started. Gave him an idea of what I wanted. Either a cover up or incorporate the old Metallic Star i had done 15 years ago. He not only gave me both options, but both designs were fantastic. He incorporated the old into the new and could not be more happy. In fact, I have already scheduled my next tattoo.

I have been to shops in Houston, San Antonio, and now Austin. By far Aura IV Tattoo is the best. The artwork from here is truly amazing especially if you want dark, evil, finely detailed, biomech style work. I have been coming from San Antonio to Aura IV Tattoo for almost a month to get cover ups, as well as new work done from @jon_zig. With each session, I am blown away by the talent and creativity.
