I’ve been getting tattooed by Justine for almost two years now. I’ve had 4 pieces from her and they are each better than the last. The most painless tattooing experience is always with her. I’m not a huge talker and she gets that but she also keeps me distracted in the best way. She’s a great artist and her designs are getting cuter and cuter by the years. Highly recommend justine to every and anyone!

Justine at HFBL is AWESOME. The shop is great, super cool decorations and art, staff is super cool and were very flexible with short notice appointments. Very comfortable getting work done here. Sanitation and attention to detail was 10/10, and Justine was happy to work with me with any input or changes. Highly highly highly recommend this shop and Justine especially.

Paul did an amazing job on my newest tattoo. He took what I had envisioned and did my best to describe and drew it exactly how I saw it in my mind. Everything about my experience, from the process of scheduling to getting the tattoo done was top notch. I felt at home with Paul and Emily. Not only do I have my favorite tattoo, but I will remember the experience just as much. Thank you Paul for creating this amazing art that I will be admiring for the rest of my days.Edited to add what my tattoo looks like almost two weeks later. By far the easiest healing process of any tattoo I have.

The entire staff was friendly and professional. A nice clean and organized environment. The guy Joe did my tattoo. He did a great job and I went back a week later for him to do another one. Will recommend anyone to go here!

Absolutely love this shop. Morgan at the front desk is always super friendly and easy to communicate with. Erik has done two of my tattoos (so far and I see more in my future) and theyre both beautiful. I get complimented on them daily. Hes super easy to contact (through the shop) and is a phenomenal artist! The rest of the artists at the shop put out some incredible work too! The team here at HFBL is super diverse. If youre looking for a specific style, chances are one of the artists here will knock it out of the park. Love the atmosphere, super friendly and clean!! Highly recommend.

This is a super late review as i came here about two years ago, but i really wanted to put this out there for others to see! i had contacted a few different artists (from different locations) about a coverup, yet alex was the ONLY one who didnt shame me or make fun of the original tattoo. he was very professional and helpful, and i was very comfortable w him and the process. highly highly recommend the shop and alex as well!

Recently got my first Tattoo here and I had a wonderful experience. I wasnt able to have my partner with me during the tattoo because COVID-19 restrictions but they made me feel safe and comfortable. The work by Anastasia Gnau is so good. My tattoos turned out wonderfully and are healing perfectly.

I had such a lovely experience with Justine! Everything from scheduling to the consult to the actual work was flawless. Everyone was very friendly and the shop had welcoming and relaxed vibes. Im honestly blown away by the quality of my tattoo, and it was done quickly and for a very reasonable price.

THIS SHOP IS NOT AUTISM FRIENDLY!!!!!!!to preface: i am autistic, i dont understand tone especially in text, i prefer phone calls. i am a very matter of fact, say what i mean kind of person.i made an appointment with erik 6 months in advance under the impression that i could check in at any time to see the work and ask for adjustments. its 2 months before the appointment i email to see the art and i am told i will not be able to see it until the day before. this was not okay with me. so i emailed back and said that if this was the case id like my deposit of $100 back and to cancel the appointment. a fair request in my opinion. i was unaware that the deposit was non refundable as this was not told to me during the consultation. i was then told that erik may have something for me and he would get to me on thursday when he was back in the shop. sounded good to me. three days later i received an unprompted email from the owner emily explaining a bunch of things that i wasnt concerned with and then informing me the deposit wasnt refundable.i asked to speak in person as the phone number wasnt working. i went in today to speak with emily and she was extremely condescending. she had already decided before i came in that i was too nervous and too combative to be tattooed at this shop and that i wouldnt get my deposit back. i told her that i was autistic and she began to speak to me like i was an elementary school aged child. saying i understand youre sensitive im sensitive to the fact that ur autistic i understand you are upset everytime i tried to explain myself.she said the reason the artists do not share the art until the day before is to avoid people making adjustments to the custom art that will be permanently on their body. which to me was exactly why i wanted to see it in advance, so that i could make those adjustments. i told her i was not being combative in my email and i was just being matter of fact. she said it sounded combative and angry because i didnt use exclamation points and didnt sign my name at the bottom of the email. again i am autistic and do not understand tone and i am not the best at communication. i was simply stating that not having an advanced look at the art that would be on me forever was not okay with me. i didnt understand how that was aggressive at all.i was so confused by the end of the conversation because she interrupted me and my mother multiple times and kept talking at me instead of to me. she was condescending and decided to not allow me to be tattooed and to keep my money because of a miscommunication and, in short, because i am displaying traits of autism.this is not an autistic friendly shop. or at least that was my experience.edit:the owner responding saying her safety was threatened is being inflammatory. we did get upset after you refused me service and the return of my deposit only because i’m not good at writing emails. i was not rude, but you were condescending. i simply requested my deposit be returned if my agreement was not met, which it wasn’t. i no longer felt comfortable being tattooed by your artists because it seems they don’t care about their clients comfort. i’ve read other negative reviews and it’s the same as mine. your artists don’t communicate and only show art that will be permanently inked onto my body the day prior or day of. that made me uncomfortable i wanted to take my business and money elsewhere, you wouldn’t allow it and refused to explain why in a way that made sense. you can say not being able to communicate properly makes you feel however you want, but you don’t know how to do that either. you had already decided before i got there that i was not going to be serviced just because i am not the best at writing emails. it was a simple, easy request. you made it a huge deal.

I’ve had the pleasure of being tattooed by Emily across a 20 year friendship and have been tattooed at HFBL since 2018. The designs included large custom pieces, some smaller designs, and cover ups. The staff and atmosphere at HFBL is comfortable and inviting with a clean environment. I look forward to spending time there as much as I as I look forward to receiving the top quality art. I can’t imagine going anywhere else.

Got my first tattoo here yesterday. Erik was very sweet and professional and would definitely recommend! I totally love it!

I had an appointment yesterday for a classic Sailor Jerry Screaming Eagle tattoo with Joe. He already had my design printed and ready to go. He cranked out the tattoo in like 45 minutes. Super quick. It looks insanely good. I am very pleased and can’t wait to go back.

I have been tattooed here for the past 7 or 8 years. The shop is welcoming and professional. They have respect for all clients and do everything they can to make your experience exactly what you want. The work is quality and fairly priced.

I had a consult with Alex Roucette and he tattooed me a few weeks later. All in all, it was a really great experience, probably one of the best tattoo experiences I’ve ever had. The young woman at the front desk (I think she’s doing an apprenticeship there) helped me schedule and pay etc, and she was really just the sweetest. Alex was super professional- I sought him out for my piece after seeing his work on Instagram. He asked the right questions, his energy was really welcoming, and he seemed genuinely excited about drawing and tattooing the piece, which made me really excited. During the tattoo session itself, he made me really comfortable and he was easy to talk to. I also met a couple other people who work in their shop and they all seemed really down to earth.The pricing was reasonable and fair- based on the time it takes to complete- and I was super pleased with the end result. I’ll be going back in a few weeks to get coloring for the tattoo. You would be super silly not to go here.

I have been thinking about getting a tattoo for over five years. I finally decided to pull the trigger. I researched a LOT about tattoos and parlors. After looking through the Instagram accounts of the artists, I reached out and Kelso recommended Paul. After back and forth via emails, I scheduled my appointment and showed up. Even though what I wanted was simple, and I had a clear idea in my head of what I wanted, I was scared that I was not going to like it. When I showed up, Paul already had the leaves drawn out and we discussed briefly what I wanted. It was like magic how he translated my words into what I wanted. The tattoo came exactly how I pictured it in my mind. Paul was super kind and funny. We chatted for the duration of the session (~30min, said it was simple). It didnt hurt and he explain beforehand the different sensations I would feel. Afterwards we discussed aftercare. It has been 8 days and the piece is healing great! 10/10 would recommend!

Ive had a majority of my work done at HFBL over the years. I had work done by Joe commemorating my sisters life when they first opened & I still get compliments, especially on the color. I havent been back in a few years, but I decided it made sense to return. Im glad I did, Jenn at the front is friendly, welcoming and knowledgeable. I briefly met Em who greated me with a smile and immediately asked if I needed any help. Previously I had scheduled an appointment with Alex, I told him what I wanted, and today he delivered. Alex did a stellar job on a piece that is near and dear to my heart. He made it a point to make sure I was getting exactly what I wanted, as well as making sure artistically it made sense. He even added in a special request last minute without blinking an eye. The addition to the work meant a lot to me. Im happy to have him as my new artist. Super stoked for him create something dope to finally finish my sleeve. HFBL crew is the bees knees!!!

Would recommend! I got my first tattoo here and they made the experience so great!The price is a little higher than average, but I’d prefer to pay a little extra and know that I was getting the highest quality tattoo. They use metal-free ink, which is also a plus!

I received my first tattoo five years ago at HFBL ( at sixty-five years old) . It was a great experience and I got a beautiful , colorful tat from Eric. Now five years later(at seventy) I want back to the only place (and I did look around) I felt comfortable , safe and taken care of HFBL... Eric again was very nice, on time very professional. Every item used on me was opened and assembled in front of me. He cared that I was satisfied with the process .Again I received another stunning tat and I couldnt be more pleased . The tattoo parlor was again very clean and orderly and COVID compliant. As a medical professional I looked around for anything that I would be concerned about. Even the bathroom was clean . I really like HFBL and will highly recommend it. I hope to be around at seventy-five maybe I will stop on by.

I’ve been coming here for years and wouldn’t hesitate to recommend to anyone. I’m grateful for the high quality artists and atmosphere. Emily is absolutely worth the wait. She’s an amazing artist and human and I’m lucky to have some beautiful artwork of hers.

I got artwork done this week by Emily and I can’t say anything nice enough she knew exactly what I wanted I got a eagle feather with mountain landscape on the inside like a double exposure picture. The piece looks awesome and very happy with it she is hands down one of the best in Baltimore metropolitan area. If your concerned about COVID don’t be here.. very clean and professional.

Paul is amazing! Great artist and overall just a hilarious dude. He did a cover up for me and also one of his original designs. Both turned out amazing and healed well. Can’t wait for future work.

Erik is five stars as an artist and professional. The shop itself is tiny and parking can be a big challenge. Also, for those not living in downtown Baltimore, getting to the shop can be a pain. I will definitely be back to finish my half sleeve.

MISLEADING AND UNPROFESSIONALI have used this shop for previous work. And returned due to reasonable price($160 for a two hour piece.) and quality of work.THIS rating is due to severe price increase, lack of professionalism in resolving the disagreement in price and inability of artist to have a conversation about being flexible or accommodating.Previously I paid $80/hour for the piece I had done. Called a few days before appointment to confirm price of $175 balance for the $240(3 hour piece) and was told at that time(for the FIRST time) that this was a 3 hour piece which be a min of $375. Shocked by the $45/hour increase from previous work - I tried to speak with the artist(ALEX DOUCETTE) who was unwilling to work with me and simply repeated that there was a store min of $125(NOT POSTED ANYWHERE IN THE SHOP) and not told this rate before when we sat and went over design. My only experience had been as stated that I was charged at $160/2 hour piece. I. asked to confirm that my balance was $165($240 minis the $75 left as a deposit) as I wanted to bring cash - which would be $215(which covered that $165 balance and a $50 tip.). I was then told that that was a mistake and they did me a favor and gave me a piece price. Was this new piece available for a piece price? Was told no. Again repeating that shop min was $125/hour.As a result I lost my $75 deposit for work that WASN’T ever done due to a severe increase in price. Poorly handled by artist as I tried to come to some compromise. Left it as I would have to think about whether I wanted to do business with them.Called back to schedule and was told that not only was my deposit not refundable but not transferable to another artist, as the original artist refused to do that work - at their price!! He even refused to speak to me further. At no point did I raise my voice or try to be anything but flexible.As an experienced manager and customer service professional I had to write this review to warn anyone who is going to do business with this artist/shop that they need to get it in writing. Or better yet use one of the more trustworthy and reputable shops in the area.

Emily Sloman was the best artist to work with! She worked diligently to make sure the piece I got was what I wanted and she was a pleasure to work with all the way through. HFBL is also very covid safe!

Way too pricey, but overall not bad, although the piece I got did turn out slightly off center. Staff didnt seem super knowledgeable about the ingredients of the inks/ transfer paper they used. Also the piece I got has flaked for a much longer amount of time than anything else Ive gotten.

Have gotten three tattoos here (two by Hunter, one by Alex) and am going back to finish my half sleeve shortly. The artists and staff are always professional and extremely welcoming. Five stars.
